I miss:
The Falls Street of the 1950's and early '60's, with the junk souvenir stores, Sears, the Alps, the Esquire coffee shop, the old railroad station on the corner of 3rd and Falls, Walker's laundry on 1st street (I worked there for a summer- dirtiest place I ever saw!), the Fanny Farmer candy store and the shoe-shine parlor just behind it, "Dirty Jimmy", an old recluse that used to walk around on Falls Street (rumors had it that he owned a couple of blocks of downtown), the lighted garlands the city would hang across Falls Street between light poles at Christmas time...

Most of all I miss the times when there were a lot of people here- on the streets and everywhere- tourists, locals, people just passing through who stopped to see the sights; when most everyone I knew came from a nuclear family, where Dad worked at one of the plants and Mom stayed home taking care of the kids; nobody was rich but nobody seemed to be in desperate need; there was a hustle-bustle to Falls Street and Main Street in the evenings and on weekends when folks would go shopping at the stores in the center of the city; there weren't many run-down properties, no buildings were abandoned, there wasn't anyplace boarded up- we were prosperous then, there was an optimism, a confidence in the future, Niagara Falls the city was SOMEPLACE.

Here's one for you............does anyone remember the HUGE "Paul Bunyion" advertisment on Military Road across from Henry's Hamburgers?I think it was in front of a flooring company and it was a logo for some type of flooring.

Duncan Motors (Ford) became Frontier Ford, then Rainbow Ford eventually ending up on Pine in La Salle; Krueger sold Pontiacs on the corner of Main and Lockport where there was an office of HFC (Household Finance Corporation); Lammert’s sold Buicks and Cadillacs, the earliest I remember I think was in the “Motorramp Garage” which was next to the United Office Building and was a multi-floor garage with ramps between the floors (might be wrong on that being Lammert’s); Russo and Russo-Massaro sold Chevrolets where Home Depot is now; George Lenz sold Jaguars and other foreign cars on Main Street near where Capitol Cleaners is now, near the Duet bar and Clan MacKenzie Hall; Glen Campbell Chevrolet was here and there; Jerry Hamam sold Volvos, Toyotas and Yamaha motorcycles on 66th Street in a building I think belonged to the Johnson family until some unfortunate business decisions shut the place down; Bob Dobson sold Harley Davidsons and later sold Yamahas on Pine where Granto’s Produce is now, after Bob died his son Buddy moved “Bob’s Cycle” out to the Town of Niagara where he still does business (Bob’s was one of the sponsors of motorcycle racing in Hyde Park Stadium on Friday nights that recreated that sport there for a couple of years in the 1970’s)...

the ford dealer was whitworth on pine avenue, my dad sold cars there in the 60's. bill westlund. He worked with alvin keinoff, mert meyers andjohn gambino. my family also owned the marine bar and grill across from louies shoes in the 50's and early 60's(lasalle, good old buffalo avenue

here's one that would cause a huge scandal today, does anyone remember that we all swam nude in the elementary schools. I remember that from good old 79th street. if it happened today everybody would in jail from the school faculty

Man oh man its a small world, I bought a 1962 T-bird off of Al Keinoff, I believe it was around 1979 or 1980. It was his and I bought it for parts. Thats a name that I thought I would never hear again. Thanks, CF (NFHS75)
