Here's how I remember that corner. On the west side of Hyde Park & Royal you had Niagara TV then believe it or not there was Falls St. (short & a broken continuation from Falls St. - see google maps) then Trippi's (old Lablaw's) and next to that was the miniature golf corse (with rocket?). Across the street was Marty's Mobile (my friend Joey M. his dad owned it), next to Marty's was Royal and then there was Golba's Tavern, behind Golba's was Club Royal and behind that was Walt's Tavern (later was called the Grapevine) I could go on and on - I grew up right down the street. For some reason I just don't remember, what was where the firehouse is now, was it a vacant lot? Does anyone remember The A&P and Sample shop on Niagara St. (up by the Casiono) they were across from the old Johnny Ryan Building, I remember there was a train bridge that went perpendicular over Niagara St., there was a dip in the road on Niagara St. that went down to get under the train bridge. NFHS 75[/QUOTE Regarding what was there before the firehouse. The owners of Niagara TV (now the Day Care) lived in the house where the fire hall is now. The house was picked up and moved to behind the Day Care. Its still there. |

________________________________________________ hey m shadow, I grew up on Washington, 2 houses from you. I used to play with Bill Huckins, to the left of your house. I dont remember you but I do remember climbing on the Shermans fiberglass brontasauraus until my mom made me get off so the big kids could climb on it (probably you). I also remember sledding from your house down Bills driveway and your dad/stepdad coming out and telling us to be quiet (we probably woke him). I forgot all this until reading all these posts. Neat site. Does anybodt remember Stosh and Stellas grocery store? Where was it? |

The Frog Pond and Mike's Caboose were (are??) on 18th Street between Michigan and Weston Aves. Nice neighborhood back in the 70s, not so nice now. |

NFHS82- I don't really remember Bill Huckins, but I do remember his sister Molly. That would have been my mom's 3rd husband, Dom, who told you to be quiet - she most likely told him to. Did you graduate from NFHS in '82? If so, I was long gone - I graduated from there in '70 and from NU in '74. James/Washington was a nice area to live in. |
