Nope, Ace Moving was on Elmwood Ave and was run by the Gratto family. Tom Gratto now has Ace Movers of Niagara.

PS: Yup, 50s.

YES!!! It was called the Bellevue Candy Shop, the teacher, it was Mr. Kinan's mother's homemade hot fudge sauce! It was great.

I saw Main Street not so long ago and find it hard to believe it is the same place. I remember Woolworth's, Lerner Shop, Wellsley Shop, Betty Dixon....really miss the great days and times....what a change and not for the better.

That swimming nude thing went for all the NF schools, because we did the same at Maple Avenue and North Junior. I never understood that one, especially at NJHS when Coach Babe Mazza would paddle you wet and naked it hurt like hell.

Louie’s shoes are you talking about the LaSalle Shoe store owned by Lou and his Brother?

Swimming nude was a real trip. They used the excuse that they did not want to plug the filters on the pool with threads from swim trunks and that the colors from the trunks would taint the water. Really what they were doing was checking everyone for body lice, ring worm, and various other transmitted diseases. They also did not want anyone to be wearing their soiled underwear in the pool. They felt that many boys would still wear underwear under their suits that might be soiled.

Joel Farugia on of the swim team coaches told me one time it was a carry over from the war days. When they went into the arm services men were just treated without privacy and it carried into the school systems that men should be exposed in front of others so they would not be embarrassed later on in life. He said we have to take our clothes off anyway to take a shower after gym and other sessions and they saw no reason to have you in a suit.

Pick a reason, they were all dumb.

Thiels dairy bar by the tops on Pine Avenue and Cayuga, well it was called Creamland when we were kids. If you went to Prince of Peace on Tuesdays, you knew Father Laterno would always be in the front looking for those skipping the class and sneaking off to Oak Island. Oak Island was on the Cayuga Creek at the bend in the road where Creamland, Old Mill Brook Inn was at.

I remember that we used to get out early on Tuesdays from Prince of Peace so all the public school kids come in - worked for us.
I had Sister Philomena for 2nd grade, and she was so ols that she used to fall asleep in class and then when she woke up, she thought she was back in Haiti, and would tell all of us "little darkies" to "watch out for the rats" - we'd all keep teling her we were in Niagara Falls until she realized where she was.

I remember having to swin naked at LaSalle Junior - the reasons were kind of stupid, since the girls got to wear bathing suits. Once we pushed the Grillo twins out into the hall naked and held the door shut until Coach Ott made us let tnem back in.

The first day, Coach Ott announced "gimmee your watches and wallets and I'll lock them in my office, because these ni**ers will rob ya blind" - apparently hge didn't notice the black guys in class, or care.
