Lasalle shoes is correct. Louie ran it while his dad fixed shoes in the back. His brother was always chasing wild women. We always got our back to school shoes there.

Thiels dairy bar by the tops on Pine Avenue and Cayuga, well it was called Creamland when we were kids

Well Mountain Man, we must be of similar age, because I remember when it was Creamland also. I worked at Sims Mobil across the street from Creamland when I was in high school. When I go back to the Falls, one of the first places I hit is Dee Dee's for a custard.

I had sister Philomena in 4th grade. Yes she was old then and my brother said he was making a sales call in Western, NY and he went to this convent thing – sort of rest home. Sister Philomena was there and she remembers him 15 years later. She ended up living to be in her 90’s he thinks. I only went to Prince of Peace for two years then back to public school.

To High Sierra: Yes I graduated in 1970 from the LaSalle and knew quite a few people in the area. Ventry’s one of the original three pizza places that sprung from Mom’s pizza. For a long time there was S&H Exchange store across the street from Sim’s Mobile and of course the Flamingo Hotel and the Famous El Sombrero Motel.

I also remember for the longest time an old barn or house next to the Gas Station and it was there for many years until Arby’s came in then they finally tore it down. To the left of that of course was the Plaza with the one coffee shop for which I think was the name Mom’s at the time. What the heck was that house all about?

To: M Shadow: Mr. Ott a non stop feature for a gym teacher; he was certainly inspirational! There were only a one black family that attended Prince of Peace, but I don’t recall the family name. I will have to go back to figure out who the Shadow must be. Were you in the class of 68, 69, 70 or 71? I know it is not Miles Winkfield, I heard he had passed away...a great guy. Maybe Willie Mathews or Boney McClain?

Mountain Man-

I graduated from NFHS in '70. The one black family at PofP wasn't us - I'm Irish.

My parents moved to DeVeaux the summer between 10th & 11th grade, so I ended up not graduating from LaSalle after going to Prince of Peace, 95th Street School (Informals) & LaSalle Junior.

I do know a '70 LSHS classmate who also lives in Iowa - did you know Kevin Timbs? He lives in Iowa City. If you PM me, I'll let you know who I am.

I probably do know who you are but your previous note was leading me to believe Mr. Shadow meant you might be black. I knew Kevin real well, but did not know that he is out here in Iowa. I know a few others here in Iowa from the area. Is he with the university?

If I can figure out how to private mail, I will let you know who I am, but then you probably already know.

If I remember correctly, High Sierra's first name is "Bob." I once thought he was a relative.

No, Kevin works for Nordstrom's distribution center there. I have his phone number, and last talked to him about 6 months ago. He still plays drums.

Actually, I have no idea who you are - you can email me at deveaux74@yahoo.com.
