Hey Chuck, It's Pete M. Every time 11:11 comes up, I recall the occasion. I figured ChuckT had to be you, since you said you played with Merante and Gavin.

Oh my yes, I was a regular there and loved the place. Remember all the regulars too. The Emmens, Celeste's, Panepinto girls, Dorato's, and the workers. Ed ran it and Mitch too. Man its funny haven't skated since then, well roller skated. Ice skated at the Rainbow Rink at Convention Center when it was open. Thats what we need in Niagara falls is a roller rink. I think alot of the kids would like it and may help keep them out of trouble. |

It has been a while since anyone has written any notes on the trivia page. I noticed in a response from Shari the names of some people from the old skating place. "The Emmens" was this Augie and Doreen Emmen that you refer to? I know that Augie has past away, but wondered if Doreen was still living.

shari10664 - Thanks for the response. Augie and Doreen Emmen were friends of the family and I don't recall that they ever had children. They were big in supporting youth groups like scouting and other programs; she was an avid figure skater when young and did a lot of work with the pageants in town. Augie and Doreen would have had children that would now be in their 60 and them if still alive in their 80's. She was a beautiful woman her whole life and maybe that is why she helped with the pageants. I was just curious because my last contact with them was 12 years ago now.

Yo, Vince-
I remember the Gallery, and we moved away from the Falls in '78, too. What neighborhood are you from and where did you go to high school? |

Is this the same Augie who used to be at the ice pavillion at Hyde Park all the time? |

Regarding Augie, I am not sure if it is or not the same one that was at the ice rink down town. I left the falls back in 74 and only returned to visit parents, relative’s weddings and class reunions. The couple I mentioned was friends of my family and he was big in scouting program. I just knew they were active in many youth programs and he was very athletic in things like skating and so on. As I mentioned he passed away 5 years or so before his wife and I have not had contact with her for over 12 years. She was in good heath at the time and would be about 83 years or elder these days. I could tell you the Augie I knew stood about 5’7 and was sort of a stout fellow but not really overweight, more physically built, balding and probably if spoken to you would notice his gentleman like qualities right up front Oh Yeah, Shadow I see your back – sure has not been much activity on this site for a while. I am sure you will stir up the old nest. |

I don't think it's the same man. The Augie I'm thinking of had a slight build. But thanks. |

I could use a dose of Dennis Ferraro's spinach tortellini and garlic bread these days . . . does anyone know whether the guy will ever be back to open a new restaurant?
I know his son took over his last place on Niagara about 3 or four years ago, then supposedly the recipes got handed over to Whizby's (sp?). Who knows the real scoop? Does anyone have any good stories about his old places, like the one at 1104 Buffalo Ave? You could see light through the holes in the wall. . . . |
