RE: http://www.washtimesherald.com/opinion/local_story_315095728.html
One of the remedies to the perceived lack of intelligence of American voters is to reduce their exposure--not to say habituation--to misinformed, narrow-minded, blindered and biased bigotery such as that espoused by this article. SUbstituting buzzwords and robotic phrases for clear thinking actually makes the situation worse. You may be confusing "intelligence" with blind obedience to your own prejudices. |

I couldn't agree with you more.
Mr. Pinkham ought to start reading the Op-Ed pages at the Dallas Morning News, NY Times, Washington Times, Washington Post, or Wall Street Journal. Those people (of either ideology) are smart enough to actually make arguments. All Mr. Pinkham did was make definitive statements without one bit of analysis: "Obama is a socialist..." Wow. Read the Communist Manifesto, Mr. Pinkham. Or at least a Cliff's Notes summary. Find out how many planks we've fulfilled in the past, how many now, and how many if Obama's plans get enacted. Then you'll see that calling him a socialist is as juvenile, simplistic, and distorting as it is people that call President Bush a fascist. "Obama is clearly the most arrogant man ever to be elected president, beating even Bill Clinton." First, it's a completely subjective statement. Second, you really think the two most arrogant men to occupy the White House will have occurred in the last 20 years? "Make no mistake about it: A Barack Obama-Joe Biden administration means: (my thoughts in bold) -higher taxes for everyone, you learn in 3rd grade that all or nothing statements are almost universally false. To say nothing that the comment is not based on anything the Senator has said but on Mr. Pinkham's ability to know his true thoughts. -vastly increased wasteful government spending, opinion, but valid. I consider new versions of the CCC, WPA, and expanded SCHIPP are valuable, but different strokes -defense budget cuts, Doesn't say how much or to what effect. Doesn't talk about the planned obsolescence of some weapons and vehicles and really misses the boat that we're having an arms race with ourselves. Really, it's just scary phrasing used against Dems lately. -an increase in terrorism, Please tell me Pinkham has like a 3 Ph.Ds in International Relations, is a 20 year veteran of the State Department, or has been involved with the high level strategy sessions for the War on Terror. I'm guessing he's spent one too many days listening to Hannity's Great Americans -millions more unborn babies murdered Nice straw man. How about another one, like: "Millions of American women exercising Constitutionally protected liberties instead of bowing to legislative moralistic paternalism. YAY! I can be an ineffectual blowhard too. -judicial activism run amok subjective, but okay -which will threaten the liberties of every American. Unless you like the right to Privacy, Substantive Due Process, the rights infringed upon by the PATRIOT Act and an assortment of others that Liberty Lovers like Pinkham are okay with infringing to be continued I'm sure |

I agree that Christians, Jews, members of ALL religions should start praying for our president and our country. It's going to get worse before it gets better I'm sure. Through Christ all things are possible, and He's the ONLY one that can really change things.

To anyone who reads about politicians...Especially President Obama...First of all...He is not islamic. He was born to a father who is African--Lets get geographical....His father was raised in Kenya. His mother re-married that of an islamic back ground...He was sent to his grandmother to be raised in Hawaii at 10 yrs old...He had to live the custom of that type of life style...by not his choice...He was a small child growing up in tht atmosphere...I am sure there were a few choices he made in life once he became a man based on religion, etc. Big deal. Also, I don't recall reading anywhere that he wants unborn babies "dead." He does not support abortion. Also, when it was stated about needing prayer for this new president..It was a great headline...But, you were hippocritical about the guts of what you wrote about him...Are you really gonna pray for him? Or are you gonna continue to bash this man. I am not racial..I didn't chose him because he was black. I am a white middle class American, thank you very much. I have elderly parents who cannot pay for med's. I have a daughter who is gonna be a college student in less than a year...Also, he is for the middle income families...Thats me and many people in America. Not everybody is rich. There are a whole lot more poor people out there than you think....Those voted for him just to get a black president in there...Voted for the wrong reasons...I agree. I also agree that the president of the United States needs prayed for...But, making the hipprocritical judgements you made....Probably will sell you less papers or perhaps...You may end up being one of the jobless citizens out there due to this...So, an opinion is okay as long as it isn't damaging.
This president has goals, iedas...No different than those before him...It is nice to try to make a difference and or a change as long as it is followed through with and voted on by the house and senate...So, get ready...Let's see if he does any of this and it happens...If it isn't the case...It doesn't happen...The world is full of disappointments. We've been through them before. So, if he accomplishes this..He will probably get my vote next time. If he doesn't follow through...He probably won't get others votes either...Time will tell...Clean up your story and retalliate what you said...Try not to be irrogant and make negative statements... |

I think thats its ridiculous that everyone is having such a fit over Obama winning !this country is in a mess hopefully this will be the change that we need! As far as Obama being pro-choice, I say YES! I think as a woman and a citizen of the United States Of America I should have a right to say what I can or cannot do with my body. No, abortion should not be used as a form of birth control. But, A woman should have a choice.Thank god for Change! And I pray for those of you shallow fools that pretend that race was not an issue in this presidential race!

A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.
AP Monday, November 10, 2008 WASHINGTON -- A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship. "It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may -- may not, I hope not -- but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism." Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military. "That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist." Obama's comments about a national security force came during a speech in Colorado about building a new civil service corps. Among other things, he called for expanding the nation's foreign service and doubling the size of the Peace Corps "to renew our diplomacy." "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said in July. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." Broun said he also believes Obama likely will move to ban gun ownership if he does build a national police force. Obama has said he respects the Second Amendment right to bear arms and favors "common sense" gun laws. Gun rights advocates interpret that as meaning he'll at least enact curbs on ownership of assault weapons and concealed weapons. As an Illinois state lawmaker, Obama supported a ban on semiautomatic weapons and tighter restrictions on firearms generally. "We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential." Obama's transition office did not respond immediately to Broun's remarks. |

How did that guy win an election?
Peace Corps does not equal the KGB AmeriCorps does not equal the Gestapo A new edition of the CCC won't be the Brownshirts. The guy is a fool who just throws around words like fascist and marxist because they elicit strong emotional responses. People keep saying how divisive Obama is. But he wants Lieberman to stay in the Democrat caucus after some serious contentions during the election. It looks like Gates might stick around in the DoD. The INTEL chiefs might stick around for a bit. Who knows if there's a spot for Powell? What a divisive SoB. The best part will be re-reading these thoughts in a year or two IF he leads in an effective and bipartisan manner. Because if he does, these words are going to come back and haunt Congressman Broun in a general or primary. I think some people just REALLY hate Obama and are doing the dividing work while blaming it on him. |

I don't think his statement will hurt him any in the strongly Republican south. Btw when did it become bad to be divided in politics? I would think division would keep power in check.

The last time if I remember corectly the Dems had control of the white house and congress was the Carter era. Carter wasn't the greatest of presidents my op. but I believe he has served the country better after he was out of office.
Maybe Obama will follow suit in four years. That's what I'm praying for. |
