For once a politician commendably tells us specific benefits TIFFs bring. Having a TIFF, according to the incumbent Commissioner, helps us build roads & provide electricity & infrastructure.

Why, then, was the MaysVille area excluded from the County TIFF? Taxpayers have asked this question several times & seen the DCCC Director dance around it. Commissioner Wichman, to earn our vote (full disclosure: I've already cast my ballot & am a ticket-splitter who's ruefully learned to vote for the man, not the Party), should get the unelected community developers & growth-councillors who want our money to tell us why the West End of Daviess County -- the MaysVille that the historic Hawkinses gave to us -- shouldn't have the roads, electricity, & infrastructure the North, South, & East Ends of the County are angling for.

Both men are concerned about the possibility of replacing the three-person county commissioners with a one-person county overseer, as the state has recommended.

It's refreshing to see Commissioner Wichman denounce Mitch Daniels' partisan plan to place Czars singly in charge of County concerns. Getting Indianapolis & the federal government off our backs won't be helped by reducing the number of Commissioners to defend us. Similarly, the County should just say No to those federal contractors who keep arriving w/ hat in hand begging us for corporate welfare to serve the military-industrial complex in Washington, DC (District of Columbia, that is) that's fallen too far in debt to pay its own way.

Currently all three commissioners are Republicans.

Currently, eh? Typically, the Times-Herald is too lazy or fearful to tell taxpayers how long Daviess County's three commissioners've come from the Grand Old Party.

Challenger Payton may've picked the wrong Commissioner to oppose. An evangelically-based campaign against a certain Commissioner who's made headlines for corruption would've been a better choice. Commissioner Wichman did farmers & the rest of us wrong on the Time Zone chaos & hasn't done anything to shut down the Illegal Employer. Still, by Daviess County GOP standards he's a straight-talker & about as good as they get. We oughtn't throw the baby out w/ the bath water.
