Hi guys. I just wanted to vent my frustration and see if anybody else has run into this problem. My house is all eletric my heater is set at one temp and is never moved. My bill has been 169.00 for 3 months and then all of a sudden today I get a bill for 380.00!! My heater has never moved AND I have been starting fires in my fireplace so my heater doesn't kick on so much. I am so frustrated. How can they say they read your meter every month and then my bill stays the same. Now they want me to pay for all the power that they never came out here and read in the first place. I can handle an increase in my heating bills during the cold months but this is crazy!! Just wanted to vent. Thank ya'll for listening. I did email costumer service w/ my complaint. I will see if they respond.

Awww, Popcorn, I'm sorry to hear that. Frowner Unfortunately, OG&E are always right, and have no form of reasoning skills whatsoever. I hope the problem gets solved for you, and they find out what the problem is. In difficult times like these, it's always discouraging to get something like that in the mail.

Popcorn: Are you on the average bill program? If so then this is the year end catch up bill, maybe. I would for sure call and talk to them about it. The fuel adjustment cost shouldn't be that high.

Popcorn, I too have an all electric home we use OG&E and we're on average billing. We have no fireplace, but our bill is usually between $125.00 & $135.00. Sometimes higher sometimes lower, but it has never gotten that high. I will also add that our house is not a very big house either. It's a compact 3 bedroom.

Hmm.... this isn't the first time this has happened. The bad thing is if it is right they don't care if you can afford the whole amount or not, especially when you have kids, and need the extra money with the economy and all right now. Sometimes I wonder if they do that just to get more money out of people sometimes?

You may want to check out and make sure your fire place is not the culprit. Is your flue sucking all the warm air out of you house and up the chimney? It's worth checking out.

Just a little advice....You might want to pay attention to your bill next month. I had this happen to me a couple months ago,In Oct. my bill was only 34 dollars, and in Nov.it was twice as high as it should have been, they said that my meter was miss read so I had to make up the diff. I paid the bill and went on. The next month my bill should have went back to normal, however, it was not the decided to average it instead of coming out to read it. When they average it they go off the previous month and because that month was my "make up" month it was really high, and so was that bill. I went out and read my meter and they were WAY off so I called them and told them what my meter showed and they corrected it and sent out an ammended bill. Which btw was about 120 bucks cheaper. Just thought I would let you know, in case it happens to you, and if you don't already know, on the back of the bill it tells you how to read your meter.

My mom had trouble with her electric bill here in McPherson, also. She had some very extremely low bills, and then she had a real high bill. When I called in to the office, I found out the meter reader had decided that reading the meters of old people in apts was too much trouble and he had just been assigning the minimum to them each month. When he was fired, the new meter reader read the meters correctly and then the catch up was the high bill.
This all happened in the winter time. So, it is always good to call and talk to someone. It couldn't make it worse, I wouldn't think and might actually help.

Back in the stone ages I had this happen to me, and it turned out to be a faucet that was drip-dripping hot water.

I'd be reading my own meter for a while, and taking notes, though.

Just an update... I did receive an email saying they only estimated my last months bills and none before that and that they were obviously way off. They said they would send someone to read my meter again to make sure it was read correctly. About 5 min after reading that email I had an OG&E pickup drive up and a man got out and read my meter. I didn't want to stir up trouble beings I am still pretty mad so I let him read my meter and I guess I will wait to see what they say. Thanks for all the input.
