Just turned on MSNBC. Great choice Senator McCain. Governor Sarah Palin is a good solid conservative. Don't know much about her but she has more experience than Barak.
Just googled her and found alot of info. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Nan D. Smitty, |

Article from FOX News:
"JUNEAU, Alaska — The wipeout in the 2006 election left Republicans in such a state of dejection that they've overlooked the one shining victory in which a Republican star was born. The triumph came in Alaska where Sarah Palin, a politician of eye-popping integrity, was elected governor. She is now the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating in the 90s, and probably the most popular public official in any state. Her rise is a great (and rare) story of how adherence to principle--especially to transparency and accountability in government--can produce political success. And by the way, Palin is a conservative who only last month vetoed 13 percent of the state's proposed budget for capital projects. The cuts, the Anchorage Daily News said, "may be the biggest single-year line-item veto total in state history." As recently as last year, Palin (pronounced pale-in) was a political outcast. She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman. State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. But she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who'd been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders. In 2005, she continued to take on the Republican establishment by joining Eric Croft, a Democrat, in lodging an ethics complaint against Renkes, who was not only attorney general but also a long-time adviser and campaign manager for Murkowski. The governor reprimanded Renkes and said the case was closed. It wasn't. Renkes resigned a few weeks later, and Palin was again hailed as a hero. Palin, 43, the mother of four, passed up a chance to challenge Republican senator Lisa Murkowski, the then-governor's daughter, in 2004. She endorsed another candidate in the primary, but Murkowski won and was reelected. Palin said then that her 14-year-old son talked her out of running, though it's doubtful that was the sole reason. In 2006, she didn't hesitate. She ran against Gov. Murkowski, who was seeking a second term despite sagging poll ratings, in the Republican primary. In a three-way race, Palin captured 51 percent and won in a landslide. She defeated former Democratic governor Tony Knowles in the general election, 49 percent to 41 percent. She was one of the few Republicans anywhere in the country to perform above expectations in 2006, an overwhelmingly Democratic year. Palin is unabashedly pro life. With her emphasis on ethics and openness in government, "it turned out Palin caught the temper of the times perfectly," wrote Tom Kizzia of the Anchorage Daily News. She was also lucky. News broke of an FBI investigation of corruption by legislators between the primary and general elections. So far, three legislators have been indicted. In the roughly three years since she quit as the state's chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has crushed the Republican hierarchy (virtually all male) and nearly every other foe or critic. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the "body count" of Palin's rivals. "The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah," says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes Ruedrich, Renkes, Murkowski, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the three big oil companies in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called "Voice of the Times," which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct." |

I also think this is a very good choice. I can't wait to see her tear Biden up in a debate.

Yes. I think the Dems are underestimating her.

She actually has 5 children. The youngest is 4 months old and has down syndrome. She did not reveal to her constituents that she was even preganent until a couple of weeks prior to giving birth. She went back to work 3 days after he was born. I do not doubt she is a very talented individual with many good qualities and ideas. I question the fact that any mother who was not honest about her pregnancy and then leave a 3 day old child to resume work. I realize she had a huge job to do, but there are limits. Knowing this, how is she going to help the millions of families struggling to take care of their children? Most of us do not have the capability to leave a 3 day infant nor would we want to. I guess my point is: What are her family values and are they the same as ours? Will she be willing to help the struggling families in this nation? I am not ready to vote for either candidate. I have too many unanswered questions. How do you feel about her family values?

It's pandering and politics beyond absurd.
"JUNEAU, Alaska - In two short years, Sarah Palin moved from small-town mayor with a taste for mooseburgers to the governor's office and now — making history — to John McCain's side as the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakes_palin He meets her one time and decides she is the next best qualified person in all of the republican party to face down an ex KGB agent running Russia, that she has the ability to be of use in the biggest financial scandals the country has ever faced, and is the one to be a stroke or broken hip away from running all US military forces in two wars in seperate countries. Is he already senile? I'm voting libertarian. Send Palin back to handling emergency polar bears and changing diapers where she was two years ago. McBush cant sit in his own dirty diaper at the retirement home. Barack HUSSEIN Obama, "appealed to the high court on the right to sit at the lunch counter, they should have also appealed for the right to have someone else pay for the meal." |

Truly a chauvinistic post. I think someone feels threatened by the prospect of a woman in charge. For one I am tired of the political parties regurgitating the party faithful and throwing them out there for us to vote the lesser of two evils. I would rather see someone like Palin with new ideas and who hasn't been tainted by the noxious atmosphere that surrounds Washington. Is Joe Biden "Change"..no more of the establishment. I will agree with you Jack that this country is in need of another strong party. Whoever is wins the next election is going to have their work cut out for them. I think its time for the people of this country to stand up and tell the congress, the white house and the lobbyist business as usual is over! I hardly think the framers of this country intended for us to be where we are right now.

__________________________________________ I'm glad someone else caught sight of the escapee from Jurasic Park. It is time for a change in our government. The few bio's I've read are very impressive. Family values? ....She and her husband chose life. Good choice with her 5th child. |

"Truly a chauvinistic post.", eh? Only "truly" thing is here's another moron who "truly" believes any one who doesn't agree with them can't possibly be any thing but a chauvinist, racist, or some other kind of wacko. After all, who else could possibly disagree with the idea of a person going from mayor of the eskimos to the second highest office in the United States in two years? Could you peoople get any more stupid? Barack HUSSEIN Obama, "appealed to the high court on the right to sit at the lunch counter, they should have also appealed for the right to have someone else pay for the meal." |

Has nothing to do with disagreement. It has everything to do with the "go back to changing diapers" comment. How about a person who has no experience in an executive position with 147 days in the U.S. senate running for the number one office. I guess some just look for change for the sake of change. It has worked well with the city of Rushville so far hasn't it.

Any one who thinks their success or failure concerning the ability to procreate is a qualification to be president of the United States is better suited to changing diapers than running the country and negotiating trade agreements or military strategy. I don't intend to be sexist but would the governor of Alaska be selected VP nominee if she were NOT a woman? Not that she is unqualified or that there is anything wrong with a woman VP or Pres, but McCain had only one motivation for choosing her-Obama did not choose Hillary! |

And as for Obama's motivation — would a senator from of all states — Delaware — be selected as Obama’s vice-presidential running mate if he were not a white male? As a minority, Obama has the minority vote solidly in his corner — and greatly needed someone like the very white Biden to round out the ticket. Published reports indicate Obama preferred either Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson as his vice-presidential running mate — but that would’ve only reinforced the perception that many skeptical white males have that Obama is anti-white. Let’s face it: Obama went after the white male vote in picking Biden. |

After having the weekend to let this pick soak in and to listen to and watch as much as I could on Palin, I still like the pick, but there could have been a better one.
Here's what I don't like about her as VP candidate... First and obviously, her lack of experience is going to be an easy attack angle from the left. Even though Barack's experience is not even as impressive as hers, the left will successfully use her lack of experience against her for this reason. Barack has been running for President for at least two years now. He's been in our radio's and on our tv's and he's spoken to huge crowds in foreign countries and he's debated against the biggest name in this race, Hillary, numerous times and he eventually took her down for the Dem nomination. He's had the time and opportunity to become a rock star-like celebrity duing his campaign. In our general, American, ADD perception, he's been there all along. Now, to the people who have investigated and actually looked into the facts on Obama, like myself, he's never had executive experience in government and has never accomplished anything that any of his stongest supporters can actually name when asked. But remember, in the American, ADD perception, he's a star who makes people faint and cry when he speaks. And he's been doing it for a long time. His first term as an Illinois Senator, a mere representative for his state in congress, SEEMS like a alot more than Sarah Palin's first term as Governor of Alaska, which includes the duties of Commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard, and Chief Financial Officer of the Alaska governement budget. The other big negative with Sarah is that she is too damn good looking and too damn young. Once again, when trying to look at this election through the eyes of the typical American who doesn't reserch anything and just votes based on what they see on tv, she doesn't look Vice Presidential. If you are just going to look at them, which many people will do, Barack and Biden have the look of President and Vice President. The media has already warmed us up to the idea of a black President with the initial character portrayed on the very popular show "24". And of course, he's been running for over two years, so we are all warmed up to him. But they carry themselves and speak like Pres and Vice Pres should. But looking at McCain and Palin, you've got a crotchedy old man and a very hot woman. I've actually heard someone say that they can't elect a man for president who can't move his neck or arms properly. Yeah, nevermind that he can't move those parts of his body because of the torture he undured as a POW. And curiousforanswers is not the first person I've heard question the idea of her leaving such a young family to help run the country. Now on to the positives... She has executive experience. She has been begging for the federal government to start drilling in ANWAR ever since she took office. She has confronted corruption in the Alaskan government, including that within her own party. She's a long-time NRA member and hunter. She helped to kill the "bridge to nowhere" deal in her state. She got into office and found that the previous governor had ordered the purchase of a private jet for the government's use. She decided the over-budget government didn't need a stupid private jet so she ordered the thing be sold on ebay. She's pro-life, which I don't care about but is big with the conservative base. Yes, she has a small amount of experience, but all of her experience shows that she knows how to do things the right way. If America can get past Sarah's looks, McCain/Palin will win this election. But unfortunately, it's a big IF. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mr. Whoever, |

There’s not a thing wrong with being young and good looking like the 44-year-old Sarah Palin definitely is. John F. Kennedy was considered young and good looking too. JFK was 43 years old when he assumed the office of President of the United States in 1961. So youth and good looks are not detrimental to winning elective office. Plus it’s about time we had someone extremely good looking in the White House. During the Clinton years, all of us had to look at Madeleine Albright, Janet Reno, and the butt ugly Hillary Clinton. All three are -YUK- to look at (ugly women seem to follow Bubba Bill Clinton wherever Bubba Bill goes). Sarah Palin is a much needed sight for sore eyes after eight years of Hideous Hillary Clinton. |
