After a long hard day of election activities, it was my pleasure and honor to attend the Avon Middle School Concert of eighth graders where my daughter was performing. May I say our choral groups are excellent and the kids performed a medley of tunes from such well known movies as Pocahontas and Tarzan. The harmonies were superb, the kids were spectacular, and the voices were angelic.

My family had the chance to see them perform at the State Music Contest in Danville where they performed admirably and achieved excellent marks. The kids have fun, are excellent at what they do and really get into the moment and their selections.

If you have never seen Mrs. Slavens direct, you have missed a rare treat. Mrs. Slavens REALLY get's into the music, she feels it, she moves with it, she is animated in her direction, and she brings out the best in her kids and they adore her. There is a real bond between her and her choirs and a real love and respect for her displayed from the kids.
She is accompanied by Mrs. Gregory who is an excellent pianist and whose tempo and timing add immeasurably to the concert and she provides the rhythm and tempos that the kids pick up and move to in their performances. It was a pleasure to sit and listen to the talent, watch the excellent direction of their two leaders, and the crowd reacted with strong appreciation, admiration, and vocal support at the excellence they witnessed.
My hats off to Mrs. Slavens and Gregory, the Avon Middle School choral groups, and the Avon Middle School music department for their excellence and quality of performance they presented. What a great job they do with and for the kids.
