Picture of Disgusted with our board
Posted
People might want to go to this site and see how Avon compares in ISTEP, SAT, compostite scores, the number of dollars Avon spends on remediating it's students to help them get back to normal or "up to speed" and how Avon compares with other state schools. We say we are among the top schools in the state in academics. Top schools mean at least in the top five or ten. We are nowhere close to top ten and as I pointed out earlier, Indiana ranks just in the top half nationally. Again we need a new direction on our board. If we were in the top five or ten it would be one thing. We aren't.
We need to raise ourselves so we are in the same league with schools in the top ten who are public

Some of the top ten schools have working arrangements with colleges in Indiana and get professors who coop with other systems to mentor and teach kids in college credit courses. Avon has had that suggested to them but to date has not embraced the idea. Our loss.

Look at this site and click on the categories to see how Avon stacks up in Indiana in the categories offered. Again we need new direction and leadership with foresight and far thinking solutions. Our state status reflects our lack of academic and financial leadership.

The fact we only average five dollars per student in Avon to remediate, help, bring up to speed our kids says volumes about our school leadership commitment to helping our students in need.

With only ll days to go before elections I ask you to click on the link above and read the sad news of our leadership. What they have produced has been well-written about. Those in Avon know how crowded our classes and schools are. They know how high our debt is. They know how sad our SAT averages are and that a quarter of our kids tested on ISTEP failed it. You know our graduation rate and SAT scores have continued to decline. 8 years ago all but two of our schools were four star. Now over half of them can not make four star.
Mr. Buckley and Mrs. Woodward in their bios claim they have managed growth wisely and made Avon one of the premier schools in the state. The link above shows that to be a falsehood. They want to be reelected at any cost. This is not about the athletic department or the band. This is about ALL our kids achieving and succeeding on a high level.
The link above shows how Avon ranks in the following categories statewide. None of those categories show us in the top ten of the state in anything. If this is okay with you return Buckley and Woodward for four more years. It is why my kids are going to private schools. I would bring them back if Avon would get rid of Buckley and Woodward then vote out Brinkman and DeWeese in two years. We need new ideas and a new direction for our kids and our taxpayers. We need change NOW not taking a chance for four more years that they will wake up and figure it out.
Read the following. The are our state rankings out of 293 schools in Indiana

SAT average 1015 58th in the state. Imagine how low the other 235 scored for us to be 58th

ISTEP average 46 highest with 25.6 failure rate.

Graduation rate 66 highest with an 85 percent grad rate. Fifteen percent of our kids failed to graduate Is that acceptable to you?

72nd in the state in the number of Seniors taking SAT tests for college. Only sixty two percent took them

With our ISTEP passing rate we only get back 5 dollars per student to help our school remediate kids including our special needs kids. The board dropped the ball again.

We have the 29th highest property tax levy in the state but we are 240th in the state for tax support from the state. Why so low when our tax rate is so high? Board again?

In spite of the above our two incumbents say they have done a good job wisely planning our growth and providing for our kids. If the above is good planning and making us among the premier schools in the state, then something is seriously wrong in their thinking.

Vote out Buckley and Woodward. We do not need these low standards and poor thinking for our kids. Figures do not lie but you know the rest of the saying. They honestly think they have done a good job. Again, this is not about the band or the athletic department. This is about ALL our kids succeeding. Won't you change our board starting with this election. I have yet to hear anyone who knows what has happened in Avon academicly and financially call their leadership and results top quality. Do we not have better than this in Avon. If not, then pray for our schools, kids and taxpayers in the future. Thanks for reading and for those who have expressed their opinions. I encourage you all to go to board meetings if you can stand them and have your say. Vote May 6th for change. What we have now is not working and figures prove it.
