The only thing that would interest our Ottumwa police is whatever training they can get that does not involve either getting out of their patrol car or actually having to do anything. Setting on their round "Crisco-Cans" listening to some "supposed" expert on TERRORISM is just about as far as our law enforcement personel can or would go to "protect and serve" (what a joke) the people of Ottumwa.
What about this idea, get the actual training for the 287G Federal Immigration Enforcement Program so that the Police Officers in the field (on the streets) can not only stop and release potential terrorists (I-L-L-E-G-A-L Alien Foreign Nationals) but actually be qualified to do something about them, like have their butts DEPORTED. You know, kinda like actually doing the job they were hired for, LAW ENFORCEMENT, not SOME of the laws, or the laws they think they need to Enforce, but ALL the LAWS. Doesn't the Ottumwa Police Department enforce Bank-Robbery Laws? How about Kidnapping laws? Informed, I will admit that my initial response was more from disgust than a well thought out response, since I feel that I have heard over and over what are you cops doing about Illegal Foreign nationals as you put it. When we know that you are only trying to stay politically correct. Fortunately I have never been one for being politically correct, just stating the facts is my way. (You know good ol Joe Friday “Just the facts mam’) First of all I will address the question of what can we do as Street cops? Truth, not much and that is not out of not wanting to, it is that the entire system when it comes to this issue has no clue what to do. The 287G program in my opinion isn’t even close to the answer. It is a start, but local Police do not have the choice for the training, and even if they do, they may train one out of 50 officers, and the only time it is put to use is dealing with Illegal Foreign Nationals that have committed a serious Felony Offense. I feel that if you have an easy way to detect and determine who is here legally and who is not let me know. It is legislation, liberal politicians, and you the citizen that has tied our hands on this issue. There is not a Cop out there that wouldn’t like to deal with the problem, but when you are handed a driver’s license, a social security card, maybe even a birth certificate, you tell me a full proof way, on the side of the road, or at a residence, to make the call Fake or real? If you have that answer let me know and call your local congressman and present it. As for the training that all the officers, fireman, and other personnel attended on terrorism is something that will be presented again and maybe you should attend. I understand that most Americans associate Terrorists with such acts as what happened on 911 and feel that it could never happen again, and they are very very wrong. It is not if, it is when it happens again. I will be the first to admit that I am no expert, but I sure am willing to listen to experts and learn from them. While what you said here in this response is, on its face, reasonable, there are just a couple of points that you could clear up for us lowly citizens. Like this line here; (I feel that if you have an easy way to detect and determine who is here legally and who is not let me know. {posted by LAWDAWG6811}) Now, I realize that you "trained professionals" have to be careful while dealing with the "Great Un-Washed Masses" for fear of racial profiling or some other mickey mouse charges being filed against you, but don't you think that a system that has access to the information from every STATE in the Union (N.C.I.C), F.B.I., Interpol and the whole laundry list of other law enforcement agencies while "RUNNING" a Wants and Warrents check on a LEGAL AMERICAN, could possibly figure out that the person setting in the back of their patrol car NOT SPEAKING ANY ENGLISH and had handed you a Drivers license that said his name was Robert Johnson and he was born in Marion, Iowa just MIGHT be a phony I.D? We are not talking Rocket science here. Most, not all, but most ILLEGAL alien foreign nationals do not speak fluent English. Being a trained observer, even cops should be able to "pick-up" on that. Here's another little thing that you "trained observers" are over looking, One of te VERY FIRST rules of "LEGAL IMMIGRATION" is that the "immigrant" MUST have their VISA or GREEN CARD with them AT ALL TIMES, and they MUST present that card to ANY law enforcement officer that asks for their IDENTIFICATION. You guys can locate a "warrent" on some guy from the 1980's but you can't tell if the D.L. some Spanish Speaker hands you is PHONEY? Why would you guys use a system that is that unpredictable?

Duh, if it was that obvious hell, you could do it. But when all the documentation states the person you are dealing with is Jose Gonzalez and he appears to be Hispanic, or maybe Puerto Rican, as is commonly seen you tell me.....Who is the real one, and as I said before all the documentaion including green cards ect. appear to be real again you tell me.... also are you so niave to think that there is no other person in this country with your same exact name. Try googling yourself and see what you find. Or go to Iowa courts online...see how many people with your name are just in this state.......Another idea you might think about is i am sure you are a legal US citizen, Are you required to carry proof on your person? So if they (illegals) say they are a US citizen, then why would you think they have a green card. I am not attempting to talk down to annyone as you claim in your response, i am just sayimg think about it with plain common sense, and quit blaming law enforcement and blame the people that you have votede in to office and vote different to force them to change the laws and figure out a better way to deal with the problem....I have no issue with a person wanting to make a better life, My job is to deal with criminals, and i will deal with it if you give us a better way.

Hold on, just exactly what are you saying here? Stop "Blaming" the POLICE Departments for NOT enforceing the laws that are on the books ALREADY? We DO NOT need to change our LAWS, what is needed is for the Police and Sheriffs Departments to actually ENFORCE the Laws we already have. What would be your solution? Pass "COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM" as was tried no less than (4) four time last year? The AMERICAN PEOPLE have already demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt, that we are NOT willing to give another AMNESTY to the 30 MILLION Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals. America passed an AMNESTY in 1986 for (3) three MILLION Illegals that was at that time called "The very last Amnesty that will be needed" because of the SUPPOSED BORDER SECURITY built into the bill. Well guess what, the ONLY part of that "key legislation" that was EVER enforced was, you guessed it, THE AMNESTY. Since then there have been over ten suplimental Amnesties granted. Making thirty million Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals instantly legal IS NOT the answer. It may make the heat for not doing your job go away for alittle while but what do you do when thirty more million show up, AMNESTY them too? You say you "deal with criminals" every day, well here's a hint, they are CRIMINALS too....
