Barr Blog Barr Quote from The American Spectator 5/21/08 “We are poised for a new birth of freedom,” Barr, the frontrunner, declared. “Inside the heart of every American beats the heart of a libertarian, and what we need to do is show the American people that that is mainstream. got this in an email yesterday, just passing on the information to those who care about Bob Barr's candidacy:
By the way, for those of you still tempted to vote for Bob Barr, he has now embraced Barack Obama’s view that the Defense of Marriage Act should be repealed. Here is Barr’s statement reported in yesterday’s Atlanta Journal Constitution: “Let me tell you, I have made mistakes. …As I mentioned to you all last night, and I reiterate here today, standing before you, looking you in the eye, the Defense of Marriage Act, insofar as it provided the federal government a club to club down the rights of law-abiding, American citizens, has been abused, misused and should be repealed. And I will work to repeal that.” The group Outright Libertarians prominently posted a YouTube video on its homepage of Barr’s denunciation of DOMA. ___________________ Someone once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. |

Media wrap-up of the Texas LP convention June 15th, 2008 by Jason Pye Bob Barr was in Texas over the weekend speaking to the state convention of the Libertarian Party of Texas. Bob hit on spending and civil liberties, but he asked the question, “Have you had enough?” He said that continuing to support Democrats and Republicans with the hopes that they will be different is, as Albert Einstein said, the definition of insanity, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” You can listen to Bob’s speech here. The introduction was given by 2004 Libertarian Party presidential nominee Michael Badnarik. Here is quick media roundup of his visit. The Dallas Morning News: Two years ago, former Georgia congressman Bob Barr might have shown up at a Republican Party convention like the one this weekend in Houston. Not anymore. Instead, he was in Fort Worth addressing the Texas Libertarian convention as the party’s presidential nominee. Mr. Barr’s dissatisfaction with his former party mirrored the sentiments of the 200 attendees – many disaffected Republicans themselves – who came to hear him speak about limiting government spending and regulation, protecting civil liberties and pulling U.S. troops out of foreign countries. “Americans see the constant growth in government programs and no solutions,” Mr. Barr said in his speech. “They see the tired two-party system. The question is, ‘Have you had enough?’ “ Texas may help gauge that answer. Russ Verney, Mr. Barr’s campaign manager and former campaign coordinator for Ross Perot, said that Texas was ripe for a Barr presidency. The Houston Chronicle: Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, said at the Libertarian Party of Texas convention that he is asking citizens: “Have you had enough? … I think this year, in this cycle, in this election, the answer will be yes.” […] “They are desperate for change, desperate for something that will rekindle their hope. That’s an opportunity that we have not had before,” Barr told The Associated Press before the luncheon. “There’s a yearning for a new way, a new choice, a real choice this year, and we intend to take advantage of that by pointing out they don’t have to settle for the same old choice of big government and really big government.” Barr said Americans are cynical because they have seen government programs and spending grow and civil liberties decrease but haven’t seen solutions — regardless of which party is in office. The dissatisfaction, he said, “goes deeper than simply George W. Bush. … Whether it’s Republicans or Democrats in power, people see this widening gulf between what they say they’re going to do and what they stand for, and what they actually do.” Barr told the crowd that the two major parties have an unholy alliance that he called a political cartel, and that they “fight like the dickens” over the reins of power. Fort Worth Star-Telegram: “I have a rude awakening for the McCain team,” Verney said. “They don’t own the voters in Texas. They’re going to have to come to Texas and earn votes.” Among the special guests was Nadine Adams, 51, of Haltom City, a department manager in a Southlake grocery. She’s Barr’s sister. “I used to be a Republican, but I feel disenfranchised,” she said. “It’s not my party anymore. Seven of 10 people I talk with say they would vote for Bob.” In his speech, Barr said that he thinks Americans are tired of Democrats and Republicans arguing about party politics instead of solutions. “There is no other party that’s going to get the job done,” he said. “The only party that’s going to get it done is the Libertarian Party.” ______________________________________________________________ "Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged." Bob Barr`s a pretty fair guy, hard not to like him, since he recovered from his early bout of Trichinosis Neoconnitis... it almost killed his political career in the mid-`90`s. If Ron Paul truly exits the race, my support goes to Mr Barr.I cant tell if Paul exited actually or not...seems to be confusion on that.

You can see what Bob Barr had to say about Ron Paul on the Liberty 08 website. Also; Barr signs Oath of Presidential Transparency June 20th, 2008 by Jason Pye Bob Barr, 2008 Libertarian Party Presidential nominee, has signed the Oath of Presidential Transparency, a project of the Reason Foundation and several other organizations and taxpayer friendly groups. By signing the Oath, Bob is committing to implement the measures of the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act in the first thirty days of his presidency and promising accountability and transparency in the way government spends taxpayer dollars. ______________________________________________________________ "Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged." Ron Paul: 'People will have a chance' with Barr
From CNN's Emily Sherman Watch Ron Paul's interview Thursday. (CNN)— Rep. Ron Paul had some words of praise for recently declared Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr Thursday, calling him a ‘very positive’ influence on the presidential race. Paul, who never officially ended his own Republican presidential bid, told American Morning Anchor John Roberts, “[Barr] talks our language, so I do really believe that he can have a very positive effect in this campaign and let the people know that limited government is a very, very important message.” Echoing the principals he based his own presidential run on, the Texas congressman said Americans’ voices will be heard with Barr, and he “gives everybody a choice in the matter.” Barr, who was a former four-term Republican congressman from Georgia, left the GOP to join the Libertarian Party in 2006 and officially won the its presidential nomination late last month. Asked of speculation surrounding the creation of his own convention in September, Paul said he and his supporters won’t be there to cause problems for the Republican Party. “We’re not going to disrupt them,” he said. “We’re not going to demonstrate as much as present a positive case for values that we believe should be the Republican values.” Paul, who has made it clear in past interviews he will not support John McCain because of their differing views, said again Thursday he disagrees with the Arizona senator on foreign policy and economic relief. “I would say [McCain] does not represent limited government values, and the republicans deserve to hear the other side of the story.” ______________________________________________________________ "Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged." The problem with Bob Barr is not that he isn't a good candidate (and I haven't done very much reading on him other than skimming this forum and his homepage) .... but that voting for him if you would have voted for the republican nominee... IF you would have voted R before he became a candidate... then him coming on the scene takes your vote away from the R candidate, and takes your vote off of the table. This is because, there are not going to be enough people to vote for him to take votes away from the D candidate, or to DEFEAT the D candidate. So in effect your vote takes votes out of the R candidate column; which helps enable the D candidate to win. And if your goal is to change the R party, it won't work by just voting... you will have to get involved. If you just want to vote for someone you can believe in... then there are many other candidates than just Bob Barr, go to votesmart.org and look up the presidential race... I think that there are about 30 people in the race at this time. Only 2 have a real chance at winning.
At least, that is the stereotypical SPOILER argument. ___________________ Someone once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. |

Barr seems to be trying to make up for being a part of the 1990`s gridlock, and that`s a good thing. He was once a GOP,but like many,he became disenchanted with the results of the NeoCon Wash these past 7 years. Result? Switched to being a Libertarian. I prefer Paul as the staunch Libertarian he has been, but think Paul is now out of the race.
Yes,to all of us,we need a third party just to force the other two monopolies to get back to doing the peoples` business. |

If there was a viable '3rd' party that was more like the Dem's then, yeah, I agree!
We would have 4 'mainstream' candidates instead of 2 or 3... but with the way it is now... you have a liberal candidate against 2 conservative candidates... so the liberal candidate will get all the liberal votes... for the most part... and the conservative candidates will split the conservative vote down the middle... assuming a 50/50 split in the country in the liberal v conservative viewpoint ... the liberal will get 50% of the vote and win NOW, if tehre were a viable 3rd party liberal candidate... then we would have a real race! ___________________ Someone once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. |

when you compare John McCain to Barack Obama; McCain will get the conservative vote and Obama will get the liberal vote..... that is ALL I was saying; nothing more.

uh...what makes you think Barr is a happy neoCon conservative? He left the party because the NeoCons ruined most everything that the grand old party stood for- less gov`t, less taxes, you know, less Terry Shiavo stuff...McCain is McSame as Bush2. Who in their right minds wants 4 more years of this crap?ok,ok,mebbe 10% of the populace,ok... We are in a downward spiral, and the blame all sits squarely on 6 years of pure, unadulterated GOP rule in a vacuum... they fail to be held accountable in any given situation... and soon, perhaps,KKKarl Rove may well wind up in the hoosegow over his role in the shameful Spiegelman case... hmmm, that`ll be fun to watch. These jerks put the GOP`s interests above those of the nation. It is unforgivable, and we now suffer for it.I will vote Libertarian as usual, but the GOP is the worst of the 2 big parties. They have no excuses for their dismal performance.
