I'm thinkin' it may as well be legal, enough people buy them where they can, set them off in their yards and you never hear of anyone being charged. Not that I mind...I love watching fireworks from my porch!

Anything that launches airborne is prohibited by law in Georgia and I think the same applies in Florida. I read some studies that were done and fireworks cause fires and injuries. They have determined that most of these occur on the 4th of July, DUH! Wonder how much all the rocket scientists and brain surgeons charged to arrive at that conclusion. I lean towards all fireworks being legalized but then I think back to the guy I saw a few years ago shoot a bottle rocket out of his mouth using a paper plate for a shield. He got burned on his face pretty bad. You can buy them in Tennessee and shoot them in Georgia which means more lost revenue for Georgia. Sometimes you wonder whose side the state government is on.

They might as well be legal. I live on the edge of Brookwood and from 8:30 to 10:00 PM all around me it sounded like a war. I don't think one solid minute went by there was not some type of bang. Someone was even blowing off the kind that go into the air like professional ones - the kind that make the mortar type "whump" sound as they are launched.
At Christmas it is about the same thing.

Well, of course they should be legal. I know of no reasonable reason why they shouldn't be.
As to the question of safety..well..how about most things we do? That would take away driving (possible fatal crash), swimming (possible drowning), eating (possible choking), sports (possible broken bones)...well, you get the picture.
As for fires...why not make matches and lighters illegal....after all, that's their main purpose. Or grills or campfires since they certainly have "live fire" with them. Or burning leaves in your yard?
I know that accidents have happened, that people can be injured. People can also be injured from anything they do in life. My mother wound up with a broken hip after falling in her yard....perhaps we should outlaw her front yard.
Oh, give it a rest. The government needs to allow the citizens to have some freedom that does not directly and intentionally violate the freedom and harm of others.
Good question for discussion Python. It's great to see that a LEO who is out there to protect our citizens KNOW that this has a pretty obvious answer.
