Why are we even considering giving the most elitist apartment complex in Walker County tax breaks. You don't have to be a student to rent there. I've known two professionals in Huntsville who've rented there and they've been out of school for decades. But even if it were all students, WHO CARES? Do you think there would be one less student at SHSU if we didn't give tax breaks to subsidize luxurious gated communities.

Check out the pictures on their web site
The Arbors

Their amenities include:

a clubhouse with a game room, pool with a hot tub, gas BBQ grills, fitness center, tanning bed, computer lab w/high speed Internet, sand volleyball court, full court basketball, courtyard with picnic tables and grills, valet trash pick-up, limited access gates and carports.

Are you kidding me? By offering a game room, tanning bed and fitness center, they're taking costumers away from local businesses that do pay their taxes.

What on earth is "valet trash pick-up" anyway?

I have heard many complaints about these apartments. The biggest one I have is that they thought they could get away with not paying their taxes. They should not be relieved of their duties to this community. Even if it hurts them so much that they have to shut down without paying anything, at least we will be rid of them.

Yeah, it's not like they can pick up their apartments and move them to another city. The county should treat them like every other delinquent tax payer. Auction the property off for enough to cover the taxes plus all the administrative fees and be done with it. I'm sure Weeks has better things to do. How long do you think they would let me go without paying my property taxes? When they try to collect, I could just threaten to appeal and they would cave.
