In related news, while the local government has had plans for some time to install CCTV downtown, they might now have a more willing population. The ubiquitous graffiti throughout the county, the bizarre string of break-ins to locally owned shops, and the mysterious shots fired on SHSU campus all have the local population feeling a bit terrorized and wondering what's going on. Yet, many residents know this crime wave is just a taste of our future and that CCTV will not protect us from it.
With the TTC I-69 and the Gulf Coast Strategic Highway poised to intersect in Walker County, the drug cartels have already arrived and they're recruiting members and setting up territories. It would be a mistake to underestimate their sophistication. Drugs shipped via TTC I-69 from Mexico and headed anywhere in the eastern US and Canada will pass through Walker County making our town the most important inland port for the cartels. There are many indications that the cartels have already purchased local properties that will operate as warehouses/distribution centers and they're setting up networks for high-volume drug trafficking.
The underground fight for Walker County has only just begun and we can expect huge increases in drug related property and violent crime in Walker County.
