This message is to JJ, Pigskinner, Jean, and Willy. Please stop. Your responses and messages directed to the troll are only a waste of your time. Your time could be much more productively spent speaking and sharing information with persons of reason who are really interested in the issues facing our nation, some great and some small.

The internet has become a haven for trolls who will say anything and twist any fact to their own devices. They feed off of the responses that their posts bring. It is a form of stimulation for themselves and is often found in anti-social individuals who cannot carry on a coherent and reasoned conversation. It generally degrades into a form of bullying in the form of personal attacks in which the troll will make an exasperated vulgar response. Those who respond to trolls are a form of enabler that only supports their anti-social behavior.

How do you know when you are dealing with a troll? It is simple. Trolls have a need to personalize their attacks. They continually monitor open forums for regular posters and then tailor their responses to maximize the response from the regular posters. They have no independent thought. They despise it when information is posted that contradicts their position. They tend to change their position to maximize the conflict with other posters.

How do you deal with a troll? It is simple to deal with a troll. Failing to respond to posts made by the troll are a form of starvation. They crave the attention that comes in the form of a direct response. Generally, the posts of trolls are so outlandish they do not deserve a response. Trolls thrive on the ability to draw out a direct response from a targeted poster on the forum. Ignore their posts and you eliminate their “fix.” Pretty soon, they have to look elsewhere for the fix.

I challenge you to go for two weeks without responding to troll posts and see what happens. These forums may have a chance to return to being a source for thoughtful and reasoned discourse. You may also find that there are others who would like to post and gather information without the threat of personal attacks. To the extent that you do respond to the troll(s), you simply encourage the trolls and discourage the average forum reader.

Give it a try. Have a great weekend. Remember that it is a celebration of those of us who get up every day, go to work and earn a check by the “sweat of our brow” regardless of our political beliefs.

this is just my opinion, but i agree with all that you have said above. trolls will not go away because no posting is done by the four of us. they will only look for their next "opportunity"! i agree that i would not like to be sitting before God on judgement day explaining why I did nothing to prevent this.

And, for pete's sake, haven't any of you people experienced a true troll? There aren't any here except maybe that guy a while back trying to stir up support for some pet project. I don't even remember what it was, but I remember that everyone here just let it die. And by everyone, I mean the small group of us that even bother with this forum not just the Fantastic Four.

Here is a promise. If a majority of people here post that they think my posts make me a troll I will leave. Simple as that. Otherwise, lets talk politics.

If I'm not mistaken, goats passed over the troll's bridge. Leg of mutton would be lamb. Goat meat is usually referred to as cabrito (young goats-equal to veal) or chevon. If you'd like, I'd be happy to set you up with some ground goat meat to eat under the bridge! If you want a leg, give me a couple of months till the next batch go to the processor

My name is Indyfan. I am a troll responder. I have been clean for a while now. It's not easy. It takes a lot of self control and the concerted use of the "Ignore Post" button.

I would be glad to set up TRA (troll responders anonymous) meetings when I am sure I have acquired the self control necessary to continue this new, fresh way of life.

Step 1: Put trolls on Ignore Poster list
Step 2: Sign in before entering forums
Step 3: Read those posts that are not ignored, only
Step 4: Have a newborn baby - that should keep you busy for at least two weeks!! (Those with greater self control may skip this step - by self-control, I mean on reading these forums )
Step 5: - hmmmm....haven't reached Step 5 yet. I just keep repeating Steps 1 - 3.

Remember - admitting that you are a TR is the first step in your own recovery and their demise.
