The other thread on here about the break-ins in Windy Pines has me reconsidering using a security service. I've looked into ADT before, but they want like $100-400 setup, and then $35-40 month for service. AND they want to lock you into a two-year contract like a cell phone company. That seems ridiculous to me.
Is anyone on here using ADT or any other perhaps more localized companies? Just curious if you are satisfied, and (if you don't mind sharing) how much said service might run. Thanks! |

SM, I hear a lot of good things about Dallmann. I like that they are locally owned.

I use a service called Protect America. So far I've had no problems with the company. The offer Free setup for most of their packages. It's 34.95 per month and you are locked into a 3 year contract.
The setup is really easy (you do it yourself). The entire system is wireless, you just stick the sensors on the doors and windows of your house and there is a central box that controls it all. It's not a local company and the 34.95 per month is a bit steep and I didn't like the 3 year contract, but the free equipment is what sold me. |

I can also recommend Dallmann. I deal a lot with them through the company I work for now. They are great people and are locally owned. Their office is by the Greater Clark County School Board building.

Do you have problems with false alarms with this system? Does it use motion sensors? The reason I ask is because I had an IR motion detector installed in my pole barn and had several false alarms. Insects would crawl over the sensor and set it off. I disabled it and have had no problems since. We have used ADT for about 7 years and are very happy. When we did have false alarms the police would respond very fast. During one of the false alarms ADT called me on my cell to notify me of the alarm being tripped. I was 1/2 mile from home and beat the police (Charlestown PD) there by only seconds. IMO, the time it took the police to get to my home, they would have caught anyone there. I feel safe with ADT and the Chucktown PD, not to mention my 1911A1 in the nightstand and Mossberg in the closet. |

Supermike, you may have already done this, but you might check the Better Business Bureaus website. It can be a helpful tool.
BBB i clicked on the "type of business" tab and then pumped the word "security" with a 25 mile range and what i figure is probably your zip, and it came up with 200 results including dallmans. if i were looking for a company, that report would make me take them into consideration. I haven't had a false alarm yet. I don't have a motion sensor which may be why. |

We have ADT.I have a habit of burning dinner sometimes. I have learned my lesson ADT said if we have another false alarm we would have to pay. I no longer burn dinner have had smoke in the house we have to open windows and doors fast. HA HA. I don't need thee fire dept out here when they could be going to a real fire.

I've had ADT for years and like it. I put their smoke detector in as well and it saves me a substantial amount off my insurance premium. That makes it a no-brainer. I would advise you to check with your insurance company to see if they would give you a policy discount and what equipment is required to get it before you go any further.

I would check out Nighthawk security in Jeff. The are located on 10th and Penn st. I have used them for 7 years. I have heat, infared and motion sensors and the only false alarms i have had is due to the kid Mylar balloons with the celing fans. Great guys to work with!

I have cardboard cutouts of Galligan and Perkins linked to my motion lights. When the sensors pick up movements, Tommy tries to pick up votes and Perkins a new job. Haven't had one break in since.

ROFL! Good stuff.... I was going to suggest that I may put a cutout of Barbara Anderson in my living room, but I'm afraid that instead of scaring criminals away, it would just attract them. |
