I don't see anything wrong with it. Again, this is freedom of speech, and he was expressing how he felt about Obama and I personally have to agree with his opinion of Obama.

Yep. Cause he's done so many wrong things that you just want to hang him, right?

Whatever. Hang a child molester... fine. But a Presidential candidate? Grow up. Just because someone has a different POINT OF VIEW than you does not mean you should hang them - or even symbolize doing so.

Speech is no longer "free" when you are threatening someone. It is also not acceptable when it demonstrates hatred, which the hanging of an effigy automatically exhibits.

This is disgusting no matter who the message is targeted at and even more so when it is someone running for public office.

I think your both off your rockers.

Freedom of speech is just that. Plain and simple.

And by the way. Having a freedom of speech means that periodically you going to be disgusted by what is said.

I find this action to be outright racially motivated. why hang the effigy from a tree if you were not expressing racial hatred. However in Southern Indiana this type of behavior is OK. Don't be alarmed when WE exhibit these types of behaviors....

The Constitution does not protect all speech. You can't threaton to kill someone or bomb a building. Hanging an effigy is the same as threatining to kill. I don't know where people ever got the idea you can just say or do whatever you want whenever you want, but it has never been permitted under the law.

If you think that you have free speech without question you're wrong. Let's face it if you go to board an airplane and mumble something that you shouldn't you're going to get jambed up. I think you can count on free speech as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights.

A Sarah Palin effigy hanging in California is as disgusting as an Obama effigy is in our backyard. Both are totally out of line and shocks the conscience of most people. This is something that has been going on for a long time due to the fact that Halloween and the decorations that people put up comes so close to the Election. I can recall effigys of former Presidents and their opponents hanging from trees in other years as well. None the less it's still disturbing and inappropriate.

Why I do not agree with this....it is his right to do what he pleases on his property! What about those guys in California with Palin hanging from a tree with a noose around her neck? They weren't asked to remove that! But again that is California and this is Indiana...........BIG DIFFERENCE!!!

I agree that anyone who hangs an effigy should be forced to remove it and possibly prosecuted. As far as the free speech and property rights argument - they don't hold water as far as the law is concerned. You can't do whatever you want on your property either. You can't run a business if you're zoned residential, you can't sell drugs just because you're doing it out of your house. The list of what you can't do is pretty long, as it should be.

The effigy of Obama has occurred in multiple states. The problem is you hang a white christian woman and you can call it "art".
An effigy of Obama is considered racist.
See the double standard?

Black effigy has a long history of displaying preceived punishment directed toward Blacks to help control their minds through racial manipulations.

No, this behavior is NOT acceptable in Southern Indiana. How about the same thing at the UK College? So, I guess the good ol' rednecks across the river must condone this kind of behavior!
