You CAN... of course, there's a $100 delivery fee.

Now, hang on a second while I get that site set up... Wink Big Grin

Actually, you can order some "non-perishable" grocery goods through Amazon.com:

How about a Macy's as an anchor plus Gap and Limited? I think Southern Indiana could definitely support each of them. I spent approximately $8 in gas (16 mile one-way trip) just to get to these stores this weekend. On my last trip over, I got rear ended on the bridge, so that cost a lot more! Why do we need more banks? Most definitely we don't need any more tanning and nail salons or cell phone stores.

Also, I like the look of the uniform buildings and low signs with brick bases. Have you driven down the more recently developed portion of Hurstbourne? It looks nice and welcoming. Is the city planning to regulate the signage so Veteran's doesn't end up looking like 10th street with a bunch of signs on poles? Ed Z - do you have any information about this?

The most disappointing comments are these:
quote:
Galligan said he doesn't want Jeffersonville's stretch of the parkway to overshadow Clarksville's, if that indeed is still possible. The strategy -- if not the last resort -- is toward better, not necessarily bigger.

"We don't want all that glitz and glitter," Galligan said.

quote:
Thanking Jeffersonville for its partnership, Koetter said a Beef O'Brady's restaurant probably will open in the fall and that more announcements of tenants may be but days away. Koetter expects medical-related firms to be in the mix, a spinoff from the construction of the nearby Kentuckiana Medical Center.

Medical-related firms?! So this is a business park now? I thought that's what his land across the street was to be for? Now they're going to put office buildings up?

But the best excerpts are these:
quote:
Clarksville even might move its town hall to accommodate still more commerce. Jeffersonville yesterday celebrated a plan to install a stop light and turning lanes.

quote:
"We're going to get activity and it's going to be good," Koetter said, a statement he well might have made several years ago.

Hilarious.

Wow. I didn't expect my "I told you so" moment to come so soon.

Councilman 2, why is this sort of delay acceptable to you? Jeez, I thought the Galligan "Veteran's Parkway" plan, which is his second shot at it, by the way, was set in stone. He was to be elected, and things were going to fall into place immediately, right? Or is your sense of patience just relegated to people you don't like or who you don't benefit from? Confused

The Galligan house of cards, which was solely built upon this development that everyone is afraid of, is a joke. I can't wait to hear who's to blame next. It'll never be Galligan.

You might as well start dreaming about the second coming of the Empire State Building being built there -- that's more realistic than seeing a Gap there.

Yes, but it is ok to dream, isn't it? Roll Eyes We did have a Gap here in the 80s, somehow, I think we can overcome this! Old Navy seems to be doing well, and Greentree Mall has been able to attract some nice retailers. Tell me you don't know a teen without a $40 Hollister on their chest or rear!

Hollister? No idea of what that is. The only Hollister I know of is Rafe Hollister the moonshiner on the Andy Griffith show.

I will actually agree with you on this. I've gone back and forth on it in the past, and there are two sides to the coin. One one side, businesses can lose a sense of identity by not being allowed to "express" themselves via signage, building design, etc. But on the other, and I believe more important hand, when a business goes under or moves, it is very easy for a new business to open up without significant modification.

To me, there is little difference between a uniform "outdoor mall" type development (think of the appearance of the Summit or even of the Quartermaster Depot in Jeff) and requiring businesses along a given stretch to adhere to certain restrictions with regard to architecture and signage.

Most of the areas I've seen which have building/sign restrictions are usually very well manicured and look very nice. One of the reasons is the requirements usually specify brick or stone, a certain type of roof, landscaping, and signage that isn't obnoxious. Compare that to Eastern Blvd. and I think you can see the advantage.

You know, what DID happen around here? We had bowling alley's, movie theaters, department stores (Bacon's, AyrWay, etc.)... how did everything end up in Clarksville?!

Galigan became Mayor... Big Grin

I'm old enough to know what WAS here and that it's not here anymore, and that many of the old shopping centers like Gateway Plaza, Jeff Plaza, and for a while Youngstown were allowed to go downhill, but geez...

I know that L&N and Beef's are for sure. Has anyone heard any rumors about other tenants?

What I get out of this is that Jeffersonville is conceding all major tenets to Clarksville and that the "mixed-use" mentioned above is a nice way of saying the property isn't going to be used for the purposes for which it was originally intended. Considering the surrounding development and defeatist attitude, this is truly a blown opportunity. And, it all can rest on Galligan's head...nothing happened there, period, while he was out of office.

I apologize, I wrongly worded a phrase...if can not rest solely on Galligan's head...he wasn't in office while the development sat dormant and no council members shook enough trees to get answers...
