Maybe just maybe Galligan should make himself aware of what goes on around the state and change his mind and "encourage" Trick or Treating on Halloween to keep our children safe from Sex Offenders and Predators. http://www.thestarpress.com/article/20081026/NEWS06/81026007

Great idea/program!! Just another reason why Galligan's decision was uninformed and serves no point. Thanks for keeping my kids safe, Tom... you're one of a kind.

FYI This program is NOT taking place in any Southern Indiana County. The parole officer will be doing home checks instead.

No he will be dressed like a parole officer and checking in each county on their designated night. Another FYI this will only be the predators that are on parole it does not include those that are still out there and have served their time but may still be on the registry.

Though this is a great idea, and I am all for protecting our children from potential harm from preditors in our community (sexual, violent, drug dealers, etc.) However, in regards to "sexual offenders" I strongly feel that we need to catagorize registered sexual offenders. As it stands now, a 64 year old man who has never been in trouble before with the law, ever, can all of a sudden find himself to be required to be registered as a sex offender, and have their picture plastered on the sex and violent offender registry, be shunned by neighbors who have been friends with them for decades, simply because after a night of drinking he slapped a waitress on the butt after getting a cup of coffee at the waffle house. this fictional guy was definately wrong in what he did, but does it rise to the level of having to register as a sexual offender for 5 or 10 years, no I think not. That can be listed as a "sexual assault". We need a system where we can be able to differenciate between a person such as proposed above, and those who are truly offenders who preyed upon children. It truly needs to be a system where a macro community can readily tell if a person is a true danger to their children, and not some one who did something that was wrong, but not to the level of a child rapest. Of course we do not have laws set up for registering and publishing persons who have been a child abuser (violent), some one who has been arrested for selling or giving illegal/ illicit drugs to children. Harm is Harm.
