Ed,

Please speak for yourself about the city's plan regarding Oak Park. I am counting on your support with Salem-Noble Road, when I spoke with the Mayor yesterday I believe he understood my reasoning but wanted a little time to think about it. I know when you and I spoke about this several months ago you agreed if the County handed it over the City would be happy to take it over, I hope that is still your intention. I plan on bringing it up again in two weeks at our next Commissioner meeting.

ps You should be very proud of your Street Department and Fire and Police protection they did an outstanding job of responding to the community's needs this week.

Give me a call if you have any questions.

Thanks, Mike

I stand by my support of the city taking and improving Salem-Noble road. I'm only one vote but I do support this and I will do my best to influence the Mayor and the other council people on this issue.

I agree I think the employees of the city did a great job during this tough time. Police, Fire, Street Department, Parks people and everyone else did a very good job. Heck I've even heard good things about the people handling the many and sometimes irrate phones calls did so professionally and with empathy. Some things could have been better and we all learned how to do it better next time but Yes, I'm proud of how the city performed.

I've been saying for years that there needs to be a light at the 62 exit to Jeff High. I have seen two bad wrecks there and these are kids that are very new drivers. I'm glad to see it has been brought up with the city. Why would that be so hard to do? They seem to add stoplights many places they are not really needed, esp the one at the new Jeff Firehouse on 62. Cars stop for fire engines anyway and the only people it seems to help are whoever works at the one building behind the firehouse. They could also put a signal to push at the firehouse so that the light changes ONLY when the engines need to come out. I've noticed when ONE of the cars that work at that building (don't know what it is)comes to the light, it changes right away unlike a lot of others where the crosser has to sit for a time before the light changes. I HATE THAT LIGHT!

majcm, I believe a light is supposed to be installed at the location you mentioned on 10th (62). I believe they are supposed to build a connector to the road across from it for servicing those apartments, too. I personally think there should be a light at the Kroger/strip mall intersection as much as the high school one, but having one at the school will help those coming in/out of Kroger.

Like everything else, though... who knows when it will actually happen. It was discussed/approved by the council months ago.

I second the light at Kroger. It's pretty rough getting out of there when you're heading back toward downtown.

Thanks Supermike, I'm so glad to hear it. Let's hope it is soon before someone gets killed there, too. Those kids can't judge how fast someone is coming & try to beat them, or (the worst one I saw) was a teenager coming out of there and could only see the truck in the slow lane, which she had time to beat across to the median. I was behind the truck & could see another car moving up in the fast lane beside the truck which the teenager could not see because of the truck. She pulled out and got hit very badly. What a helpless feeling it was, seeing it was going to happen and nothing I could do!

We intend to request two traffic lights, one at Salem Noble and one at River Ridge. We also want to see the turning lanes lenghtened. If the State refuses to help I'd like to see the City and County jointly fund this project.

Hey Mike, I was just wondering if you or the Mayor have gotten any response back from the State on this request? Do you know how long it usually takes before they actually do the study? One of the reasons I ask is that I and several folks I know have been avoiding this intersection whenever possible, particulary during high-traffic times. But if they implement the study, I want to be sure to use it as much as I would if a light were there.

Thanks!

Mike

Supermike,

I spoke with Steve Stemler about ten days ago, he said there was something in the works for a light at River Ridge and that he would talk to Jim Lewis about making a push for Salem-Noble Road as well. I left a message for him this morning but have not yet heard from him today.

I also met with Jerry Acey (Director of River Ridge) yesterday morning and discussed the need for two traffic lights an Highway 62, he's on board for both as well. I spoke to Mayor Galligan Sunday afternoon about the city taking over Salem-Noble Road, I'm not sure he wants the responsibility of it's upkeep, but I'll keep pressing.

Thanks for the update, Mike! That's great news! I really hope Steve makes some headway with Senator Lewis on Salem-Noble. I see nothing but growth there, so the problem is going to get worse before it gets better if a light isn't put in.

Again, I appreciate all you do, and I know others do, as well. Thank you very much for your hard work and the sacrifice of family and personal time you make to keep things moving around here!

We need a traffic light and an intersection redesign at the intersection of Vissing Park Road and Route 62. Who do I see to get one?

I agree... that intersection is weird. There's the light coming out of the apartments, but it doesn't connect with the road coming out of Vissing Park Road. Not sure what they were thinking when that one was designed.

It was probably designed by a politically connected body shop!
