What!? This is dumb. Halloweeen is on October 31st. And that's a FRIDAY night. So what they are saying is they would rather kids be out trick-or-treating on a SCHOOL night than to be out on a Friday night??
Note to the parks department: most high schoolers do not trick-or-treat!!
This is dumbest thing they have tried to do, a holiday is a holiday I think most parents would want it on Friday ( the day it falls on) No school the next day, less of a rush. I agree w/ you all.

This really irks me for some reason. I have two very young children who will be looking forward to Halloween (not the day before), and trick-or-treating. I'd MUCH rather take my kids out on Friday night (not a school night), so they can enjoy the whole night. We're always rushing to trick-or-treat and take them to see relatives, etc., so I was looking forward to not worrying about their bedtime this year.
I'm also guessing the rest of the county (Clarksville, Charlestown, etc.) will have Halloween on Halloween. If they follow Jeff's lead, I'll be dumbfounded.
I just found out this decision was made by the mayor's office. I encourage everyone to call and complain ( I already have) 812-285-6400, leave a messsage if they don't answer.
I am having Halloween ON HALLOWEEN !!!! and it has nothing to do with high school football.

I tried to email Cary Dyson, the "Asst. Superintendent of Programs", from two different email addresses using highly prominant domains (one GMail, the other Insight). Both returned the following:
quote:
From Barracuda Spam Firewall <postmaster@cityofjeff.net> Your message to: cdyson@cityofjeff.net was blocked by our Spam Firewall. The email you sent with the following subject has NOT BEEN DELIVERED:
I called the Parks and Rec office, and was also informed this was made by the Mayor's office. However, I can't email them, apparently. The lady in the Parks Dept. was understanding, but her hands are tied. She said several others have called about this.
And to clarify, this decision was to avoid a POTENTIAL conflict with the Sectional SEMI-FINALS, to which we don't even know if the team will reach. And even if they do, it's not likely that too many football players or cheerleaders will be dressing as ghosts and going door-to-door.

Sounds about right for Galligan to change dates. Remember, he also changed the elections from a single day to the 30 day period before election day with the use of absentee ballots so he could be mayor again. There should be more on this before the end of the year.

Sorry, asIseeIT... the City of Jeffersonville is not officially providing Halloween to you until 2009. Until that time, you can continue to celebrate Halloween as you have in previous years.
It seems that in the past, Jeff has set the date and the rest of the lemmings have followed suit. Hopefully this will not happen this year. I'll encourage my kids and neighborhood to trick-or-treat on Halloween.
Halloween is the 31st, I say we just tell the "mayors office" to celebrate it on the 30th and the rest of us will celebrate it on the 31st- Halloween- what's next celebrating the 4th of July on June 4th?
