Whatever happened to just going around the neighborhood and to friends? Now it is babies in strollers with "oder kids" dressed up in costume begging or demanding candy, to the square, then off to Mahaska Drug, then to several neighborhoods. I know of some older retired people who said they had over 200 people and were surprised at the number of "big people" trick or treating. I also understand there were many many elementary students taken out of school early (like 2pm) on Thursday just so they could "get ready" to get in line for the halloween freebies. It is a wonder we have problems with Elem reading and math scores??
Maybe it is just part of the spreading the wealth plan!

I have to agree, I believe it's getting out of hand. To me Trick or Treat isn't walking around the square at 4:00pm, I'm not sure what it is actually. I also believe with the size it's getting to be the square isn't the best area for it. It really begins to mess with traffic, plus you have those who think they have control of traffic if they're participants. Just how much candy do the kids need? And to the parents out there who have older kids...explain to them people really don't like teenagers begging for candy...with no costumes especially!!
