Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed
What the “Hell”
Fire and Brimstone

Gen 13:13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.

Sinning greatly enough for God to utterly wipe out the entire two cities how horrible it must have been for Sodom and Gomorrah.

Gen 18:20 Then the Lord said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous

Perhaps this was because of the cries of Abram when Lot was captured. I am sure that God would not allow such a thing to take place under the son of his nephew.

After the war and Abram recaptures Lot the countdown begins about destroying Sodom and Gomorrah. Tee minus 50-40-30-20-10… Poof hell fire and brimstone!

Gen 19:28 He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.

No one but Lot and his daughters escaped.

Sodom’s Sin

Isa 1:10 Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!

Isaiah reference the people of the Law as wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah. Obviously this means that those who Isaiah saw as troubled as Sodom and Gomorrah impossible to save.

To prove this point the Prophet Jeremiah says, “They are all like Sodom to me the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah."*

The Prophet Ezekiel stresses even more concerning the Jewish Nation: As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.#

So what exactly was the sin of Sodom? Ezekiel get’s right to the point:

What could have been so bad that Ezekiel sees in his own nation that was worse that Sodom?

It’s this: 'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.$

Seems like a stretch Secrets.

Your analysis misses the whole point of Christianity. We are saved by faith, not by works, lest any man should boast!

Have at it Secrets, what would you like to say about Sodom?

Would you agree that all but Lot and his family were wicked and their thoughts were wicked continuously?

Agree! Dreamin' Smiler

Matthew 10:15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

that town is any town.

That town, any town that rejected the word of Grace via his apostles?

that town is any town.

Sodom and Gomorrah was judged for its sin including homosexuality under the law. It is even worse for those that remain in sin by rejecting the grace of God through Jesus Christ.

That verse does not in any way indicate that homosexuality is not a grevious sin.

I see your point Dreamin' but Jesus also says:

Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

So in context of Sodom Jesus is saying

Matthew 11:23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

What say Ye?

Luke 17:28-30 (NKJV)
Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Jude 1:7 (NKJV)
7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as AN EXAMPLE, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

I am not sure what you are asking.

Without going to the text and getting the context, I would submit that Jesus is again noting that failure to heed the word of Grace is more serious than judgment under the law. There are two ways of salvation.

Keeping the law perfectly is the first but that can't be done!

Being born again via saving Grace through Jesus Christ.

Sodom and Gamorrah was inhabited by lawless men and women, people who totally abandoned any notion of law or morality and became depraved in deed and in thoguht.

Christ came and displayed the Grace of God through power, through miracles but ultimately through his propitious death on the cross.

The Bible makes it very clear that the only unforgivable sin is to reject the free gift of Grace, failure to repent, accept new life in Christ leaves no way to salvation.

He is the Way, The Truth and The Life!

Luke 17:32 Remember Lot's wife!

Luke 17:33 Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

Do you believe Jesus is talking about salvation here?

I do

The simplest of point's is we need to become like little children.

Matthew 18:3 And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Then Jesus goes on to say:

Matthew 11:16 "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

17 " 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge and you did not mourn.'

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'

19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But *wisdom is proved right by her* actions."

20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.

21 "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

Mat 11:24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dreamin' are you seeing this? Jesus is denouncing cities that did not repent, and "Sodom would have remained this day if the miricles I preformed in these cities were preformed in Sodom."
So it makes you wonder why Sodom would have repented and those who saw the face of the son of man did not?
* wisdom is proved right by her actions *
Is this a quote or a phrase because Jesus obviouly was male.
Think about it brother in Christ! Wink
Do you people REALLY believe that a Omnipotent Sky Man personally destroyed an entire city full of men, women and children - killed every single one of them - all because some people were having butt sex?
Can you really be that far off your rockers?
