Since several of us are in discussions over the adherence to the commands of the Torah, and there seems to be an overflowing into many different threads of other intentions, I decided to begin a thread on the Torah, if anyone is interested for a true discussion, with respect, and potential learning for all. Feel free to reference scripture or post only your thoughts (constructive please). If there is no interest, this thread will fade away, no harm done.

I will begin a question. Many people I know have said, and some say it here, that Torah is burdensome, and we are free from that bondage. What is perceived as bondage to you in Torah?

I don't believe the Torah is a burden, (I'm like a baby learning to walk with this new knowledge, btw) but I believe that in Jesus' day the Pharisees had added extra rules to the Torah that WERE burdensome. For example, on the Sabbath Jesus and the disciples plucked some corn to eat it because they were hungry. The Pharisees accused them of breaking the Sabbath. Jesus told them that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for Sabbath.

David and his men broke the Torah by going into the tabernacle and eating the shew bread, because they were near starving. That was breaking the Torah, but God did not count it as a sin.

I do avow, though, that Jesus was the Spotless Passover Lamb sacrificed for our sins.
There is no more sacrifice. To sacrifice animals to atone for our sins now would wrong. It would be saying Jesus' sacrifice was insufficient. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. We can add nothing to our salvation, Jesus did it all. But I do believe the bible says true Christians will want to obey Jesus, who is the Word of God. Obedience to the laws doesn't save you, but it is evidence that you have been accepted into the beloved.

Having said that, I believe that this is a matter that is one that we should not criticize other believers that worship on Sunday instead of the Sabbath, or believers that eat unclean meat such as pork. They are still brothers and sisters in Christ and we should treat them with love. They should not criticize Torah keepers for keeping the Torah, as long as they are doing it to please God and not doing it to try to earn their salvation..which no one can do.
