Powell's not running for President. Were the General, or any other lifelong military man, to run for President, his never having worked a day in his life off the public trough is indeed a justifiable concern. Infamously-bloated military budgets are poor credentials.

IIRC General Powell, however, didn't grow up w/ a silver four-star admiral's spoon in his mouth as McCain did thanks to his father & grandfather before him. McCain's grandfather is likely the interesting one; his family's Mississippi slaveowning days over, he had to look for a new line of work to order other persons around & came of age just about when Teddy Roosevelt & Hoosier John Hay were hatching their plan to rule the seaways by seizing Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Hawaii, & the Philippine Isles.

Powell, the son of West Indian immigrants, has learned the lessons of conquest & good-neighborliness well.

What information? I remember when Powell came up; must've first hit the national radar during the Reagan administration. At the time Powell drew especial interest for me because I was living in a town full of West Indians.
