The Bush/Cheney/Republican era is dead. I dance on their graves.

This is mildly disturbing, and what I was afraid of, zephyr. It's not even over and you're "dancing on the graves", despite the fact that nearly half of America so far has been voting for McCain. If you treat that 48% like they don't matter, Obama's victory will last exactly two years (until the 2010 midterms).
Please, please realize that the close nature of the popular vote means that there's a need to "reach across the aisle". I am certain that Obama will recognize that. Your ad here |

How gracious. Congratulations, nonetheless. EDIT: Yeah, what Folkie said. Two things fill the mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe: the starry heavens above and the moral law within. --Immanuel Kant |

I don't remember the Republican party being too gracious or centrist or reaching across the aisle...this very close popular vote has been this way for the last 3 elections at least, right? Our country is split down the middle......literally.
After the last few elections...are you really expecting Democrats to not be dancing in the streets tonight? Come on. Reach over boys....as you so often remind us that we need to do...lead by example! |

Dancing in the streets, sure. "Dancing on the graves" of Republicans, no. I expect you to be happy, and you should be. But in your zeal, please don't forget the nearly half of the nation that does not see the same as you do. The Republicans DID make that mistake, you are right...which is precisely why you SHOULDN'T make that mistake. As for me, I'm a little sad because it negates any chance I had that the Dems would want to regain former supporters like myself. But I'll get over it, and we all have work to do! Your ad here |

Let me start with this. Congratulations to both parties for a job well done. Both of them got this country off their collective duff to get out and vote. They should be admired for that if nothing else.
Nearly 11:30 here and heading to bed. At present it looks as if Sen. Obama has won. Congratulations to him and to those who feel he represents them best. While we have all spoken loudly and long over the past months with differing views, at least we are all Americans with the ability and freedom to do so. I have to agree with folkie though. If those who win tonight choose to make this a victory clouded by hate filled rhetoric, all good will you will have made will be tossed out the window. Trish, as for "..the Republican party being too gracious or centrist or reaching across the aisle..." I honestly think they did. As a matter of fact I was talking to someone the other day and we both felt that that was where Bush made his biggest mistake over the past 4 years. He tried to please too many and ended up pleasing none. You should be dancing in the streets as part of the celebration of a big win. But dancing on someone's grave? Odd choice of words when the biggest complaint was how he sent people off to die. I will also note that we can expect this to last longer than tonight. I thought this well over a month ago. The lawsuits, the legalities of the vote, the voter fraud, the accusations will continue I think for at least another month if not longer. Today we have stories on Black Panthers, votes filled out ahead of time for people, false votes, etc and we're going to continue to hear about them for a while now. When all is said and done, lets hope that there wasn't too much of this going on to make a difference. Wouldn't it be nice if lawmakers decided the make it so there could be no voter fraud? I doubt it will happen. I think too many on both sides of the aisle benefit from it. So dance in the street, enjoy the win and have a great time. Now it's time to sit back and watch the promises made be fulfilled. |

I will give you this one...(and then it is back to the streets for more dancing).....Mccain's concession speech was fairly gracious and I commend him for leading his followers down the road to keep on working on the country's problems and not focus on the loss.
Final thought for the night: As a woman in the United States tonight...I breathe a sigh of relief...and comfort....a cushion of 4 more years. That is an honest statement and heartfelt. |

Congratulations.
Now I am a little confused on protocol: do I kneel, or bow, or kiss the ring? What's the proper etiquette for welcoming the messiah? Two things fill the mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe: the starry heavens above and the moral law within. --Immanuel Kant |

Democrats need to reflect that (even though not all the votes have been tallied) about 46% of the voters voted for McCain. Given the economic collapse, the uncertainty about the future, and given the fact that McCain is tied to the incumbent party being blamed for this train wreck--it should not have been close. So Democrats need to get past the knee-jerk response (shrug--they must be stupid) and ask themselves why it was even this close? And when they are done doing victory dances, they should catch their collective breath and ask themselves: "If the economy hadn't tanked so close to the election, would we still be celebrating victory?
Enjoy the night--I know I will. But tomorrow we need to sober up and realize there is a lot of work to be done. |

Trisha, I will say this...in Obama's acceptance speech, I saw the "spark" I have long thought missing. And I commend and applaud him for acknowledging the people who didn't vote for him. For the first time in a long time I have to say I am encouraged for the future of America. And the way Obama accepted has a lot to do with it. Amen to that. Now it's not just Bush and Cheney, it's ALL Republicans? Wow, truly the party of inclusion. Two things fill the mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe: the starry heavens above and the moral law within. --Immanuel Kant |
