White House ‘very concerned’ about transition attack
By ANDY BARR | 11/6/08 11:18 AM EST White House press secretary Dana Perino warned Thursday that the administration is “very concerned†about the threat of a terror attack during the transition or the early weeks of the Obama administration. “That is something that we're very concerned about,†Perino said. “We've seen that in other countries — Spain, obviously, had that terrible bombing.†Perino said that “we know that Al Qaeda and others try to test a new administration,†echoing Vice President-elect Joe Biden, who caught flack for a similar statement on the campaign trail. Perino added that the Bush administration is “determined†to make sure that "we overlap in terms of our understanding and capabilities so that ... when we hand the baton over to the Obama team, that they have that full range of capabilities and also all the knowledge that they need to help continue to keep us safe.†“I don't know of anything specific,†she added, “but we do know that this is just a heightened period of concern.†|

I say it is true because the bush admin says it so and we all know the bush admin has never lied to the american public, the bush admin has never twisted facts to fit the bush admins objectives...and i have 1 trillion dollars to give to the next poster on this thread who believes the bush admin is truthfull to the american public

I'm with Salt, let's ignore all terrorism warnings because they are raised by the Bush administration! I mean it's not like we've gone 7 years without a major terror attack on our soil.
Do you believe Biden (and the administration he represents) when he warns of a terror attack to test Obama? Two things fill the mind with ever-increasing wonder and awe: the starry heavens above and the moral law within. --Immanuel Kant |

The statement by the White House would apply regardless of our President-Elect. If McCain were coming in it would still be necessary and prudent to insure that his team of advisors were well educated about any and all potential terrorists attacks.
It is also true that regardless of who is the President-Elect a time of power transition COULD be viewed by our enemies as a time of weakness or at least a time when confusion could result and an attack could be more successful. This isn't partisan, or only because we have a transition from GOP to DEM - it is the way it is during ANY transition and especially so during a war-time transition. |

I'm a shark repellent salesman. Since I began selling shark repellent, we have not had one single shark attack in the Texas or Oklahoma Panhandles! Correlation does not equal causation. The terrorist waited eight years between the first and second WTC attacks. The fact that none have happened on American soil does not necessarily show the efficacy of our Homeland Security Department. Your ad here |

My point is that when Biden said it, he was an idiot who was just saying something to win an election. It was all over the news and right wingers went haywire over it. Now the Bush Administration says it and nary a word from anyone. Maybe they are both right. Can we all say "Sorry, Joe. I guess we were wrong about what you said"?

my response was a smart a@@ remark to the post from anonnanny just above my original post.. now it dosent really matter wheather it was biden or bush who says that we need to be prudent of our security measures because of terrorists possibly planning an attack on the US during the transitional time or after obama takes the seat in the white house heck even my 3rd grader has aked if we will be attacked by bad people now that we have elected a new president... its is a possability that cannot be ignored by either the out going or incomming president and thats just a fact of life. |

I'm not sure the uproar over Biden't comments were directed at the notion that during the transition we should have a heightened security level. Biden talked specifically about a created crisis, aimed at testing Obama. He talked about how we (the American people) might not understand Obama's reaction to said crisis but that we should have faith, etc. I see the similarity you are trying to draw, but I don't think they are exactly the same statments. Alas, Biden's multiple gaffe's did not seem to hurt the ticket since they WON the election. Whether this was much ado about nothing is really irrelavent at this point, isn't it ? I mean, during the campaign BOTH candidates made hay with the other's comments, etc - in case no one has noticed, the campaign is OVER, the election happened and Obama/Biden were victorious. Lets stop rehashing partisan crap that happened during the election - especially when you are on the winning side. |

Ah, but I haven't actually seen any shark fins poking up from murky rivers or lakes. On the other hand there HAVE been attempts on attacks in the US - from the guy driving in from Canada with a car full of explosives, to the "Pizza Parlor" gang that tried to get on Fort Dix with a bunch of black market machine guns.
