South Carolina Catholic priest Jay Scott Newman has told his parishioners in a letter that if they voted 'Barack Hussein Obama' and don't ask for forgiveness for doing so before taking the Body and Blood of Christ, their souls will be at risk!
His reason?
Says the priest, "Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president. Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."
For some reason I thought the Catholic Church was more centralized than this. Priests just making up doctrine without consulting the Vatican. Very odd I think.

While we do not agree on politics (and I didn't vote for Obama), one thing we agree on is that they shouldn't be dictated from the pulpit. If I ever had a minister refuse me communion for voting for ANY candidate, I would walk out of that church and never come back.
And I would make darn sure that priest's superiors knew WHY I was leaving!

The ironic part is that the church gave communion and still do to the priets that molested children. They just moved them around to other churches. They wonder why people are turning away from the church. The catholic church isn't the only church with hypocrisy.

EXCELLENT point, Sandra.
I would, however, note that this decision was made by a single priest, not by the diocese. But still, if the church doesn't take action, it does say something, doesn't it?

And to play devil's advocate (ironic huh?) it's not like he's asking who people voted for when they come to church. It's more of a "if you voted for Obama, your conscience shouldn't allow you to take communion". I still disagree that endorsing a candidate should have any bearing on your spirituality - I mean maybe if you were an outspoken opponent of the church on an issue like abortion or gambling, I could see the "no communion" thing - but not on a candidate.
