I realized I have been guilty of hijacking (no pun intended) or derailing other threads with gun control issues, I figured it would be appropriate to start a separate thread dedicated to this purpose.

Perhaps the BIGGEST reason I opposed Obama is his stance on gun control. His campaign promises to renew the AWB, enable frivolous lawsuits against gun makers, and seriously restrict law abiding citizens from owning/buying firearms all make a strong case for him being the most anti-gun President we've had.

His past record of advocating total handgun bans, 500% increase on gun/ammo taxes, opposing the Supreme Courts' ruling on the 2nd amendment, and advocating the reversal of a STATE'S RIGHT to issue concealed weapons permits to law-abiding citizens all solidify his nomination as most anti-gun Pres.

Bring on any and all defense of Obama's gun policy, but be prepared for frontal assault containing fact and reason. Cool

BTW, I tried to find Obama's agenda on gun control and it's GONE. Is he working to totally overhaul it now that he's clenched the White House?

Also, I never knew there was an "Office of the President-elect". At least I never learned of one while studying poly-sci in college.

I know this will sound crazy from me, a tree hugging liberal, but I do own guns and don't intend them to be removed. There were too many other issues I disagreed with the McCain camp on to vote for him. I was originally a Hillary supporter. But the gun thing - maybe it's because I grew up in a family of gun owners and hunters in Oklahoma, but yeah, I'm keeping mine.

Gun control... the only gun control i need or want is a perfect aim.. one shot one kill i dont like to waste ammo.

(political gun control is an issue i have had since i was old enough to pull the trigger on a gun..because gun control will not control the criminal element who use guns for illegal activities as they (criminals) donot aquire guns legaly to start with..

I will be keeping my guns no matter what laws are passed about gun control and yes obamas gun control was an issue with me but mc cain/palin was a bigger issue for me thats why obama got my vote and that was only because i could not vote for hillary..and palin was the biggest issue i had during the presidential campain and in my opinion she is the reason mc cain lost the election (which was a good thing but that is where 51% of the blame lies and mc cain was the remaining 49%)

I completely agree with PGD's stance. Obama is not for moderate gun control, but heavy handed gun control. As stated earlier, even if gun owership for law abiding citizens is restricted the criminals will still have access to firearms, period.

The AWB will be back, with many other restrictions. I am a conceal/carry permit holder, and believe it is my right to carry where allowed for my protection. Obama wishes to only allow retired police officers to carry. However, I took the required training and passed the test to be licensed as required by my state. I should have a right to reasonably defend my family.

Go buy your guns now folks, I am.

spivey,

no matter who obama says can carry fire arms will not make a bit of diffrence to me (it actually does but not in any context of this statment)because I will still protect my wife, my kids and my property period no matter what laws are on the books to try to prevent me from doing so... nothing written on paper will protect some one from me who is trying/tried to hurt my wife or kids or some who did hurt them nor will it protect some one treaspassing on my property, vandalizing or theft of my property and i only shoot to kill no wounding or warning shots because that is a waste of ammo and i dont believe in wasting ammo and I am more annal about wasting ammo than a bible thumpper is about thier religion

And President Obama would send you to JAIL, Salt!

Obama voted against Illinois SB 2165 which sought to protect citizens who used prohibited firearms in self-defense - exactly what you're proposing to do!

So I guess Obama's stance on guns is indefensible? No supporters want to speak up?

Looks like the Washington Times noticed the Obama agenda has disappeared and has been replaced with "one vague paragraph";
quote:
Agenda disappears from Obama Web site:

Instead, the official agenda on Change.gov has been boiled down to one vague paragraph proclaiming a plan “to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.”

Because there isn't. Apparently he didn't feel important enough yet.
quote:
Obama Invents 'Office of the President-Elect':

At his first news conference on Nov. 7, Obama stood at a podium bearing a sign that read: “Office of the President-Elect. Also, his Web site, Change.gov, bears the words “Office of the President-Elect” at the top of its home page.

Writer Larry Anderson referred to the “made-up little title” on the American Thinker Web site, and declared: “I nearly busted a gut ...

“Once again, [Obama] can’t wait to invest himself with the trappings of office.”

****

“Yes, he will be [president-elect]. But he’s not officially yet, until the Electoral College votes.

“The Constitution provides that on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December, electors convene in their respective state capitals. It’s then that they formally elect the President of the United States, based on the general election results.”

The Nov. 7 news conference did not mark the first time Obama has created controversy with a podium.

Back in June, he spoke at a podium bearing a new seal that altered the official presidential seal.

The seal did include the American bald eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, but the Latin phrase “E Pluribus Unum” was changed to “Vero Possumus,” a rough translation of the Obama campaign slogan, “Yes we can.”

Obama’s seal also removed the shield over the eagle’s breast, representing the president’s oath to defend the Constitution, and replaced it with the letter “O,” presumably for Obama, and the image of the rising sun.
Of course maybe it was to show that he is ready to "Rule" and not govern our nation;
quote:
Obama Spokesman Says 'Obama Ready to RULE on Day 1':

The co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, Valerie Jarrett, appeared on Meet the Press this weekend and used, shall we say, an interesting word to described what she thinks Barack Obama will be doing in January when he's officially sworn into office. She told Tom Brokaw that Obama will be ready to "rule" on day one. It's a word that reflects the worst fears that people have for Obama the "arrogant," the "messiah," that imagines he's here to "rule" instead of govern.

Jarret told Brokaw that "given the daunting challenges that we face, it's important that president elect Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."
