Before I say anything else, I want to congratulate the Democrats for an impressive victory. It was well earned, and a close race all the way through.
Now, let me encourage you not to get overzealous in your victory. Realize that a lot of people voted for John McCain, and these same people will vote in the 2010 midterms and the 2012 Presidential elections. If you decide that this was the "great Revolution", you're setting yourself for a backlash at the midterms. This country is hurt and bleeding, and what we need to do, ALL of us, Dems, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, and Independents, is put aside our political differences and work for the good of the nation. We've got a lot of work to do, and we need to start doing it as soon as the sun rises tomorrow. I said some time back that, come November 5th, I am not a Libertarian first, I am an AMERICAN first, and I mean it. I will be praying for Barack Obama and ask all other readers of faith to do the same. We've got a country to rebuild. Your ad here |

Thanks folkie. And I hope that Republicans and Democrats alike do a little reflecting on the politics of division, and realize that:

I would like to offer my congratulations to President-elect Obama. I think I can speak for the entire nation when I say that if this campaign had gone on much longer, we likely would have had a mutiny. Now, that it is over, we can move on. Two year campaigns are going to do nothing but create the kind of division we have seen lately.
You know...like this statement:
This statement is perfect example of why I have lost all respect for this forum. Celebrating is one thing, but this statement is quite another. |

Yeah, that's what I appreciated about Obama's acceptance speech...Obama didn't give the finger to the 48% that didn't vote for him, but rather acknowledged he's our President as well.
I said a long time back that regardless of who wins, I am an American first, and I meant it. It's good to have a President that recognizes that red and blue need to work together rather than one being subservient to the other. Your ad here |

I am grateful that everyone is so gracious, both in victory and defeat. That being said, we here in oklahoma are in for a few tough years. The Senate is in Republican hands and they picked up 6 seats in the house. May God have mercy on your soul if you get hurt at work because the Republican priority in Oklahoma is to "reform" workers comp even more.
I am not gloating... but the snot-knocking the republican party took all across the country is, hopefully, the end of the neo-con era. I hope that the Republican Party takes a hard look at where they stand and those that are REAL republicans can take back their party and cut the maniac, right-wing religious nutjobs loose and let them form their own irrelevant party that is moving backwards whiile the country moves forward. This is an historic day and we should celebrate it. Let's get to work and fix what is going wrong and strengthen what is great. Great speech by John McCain, as well. |

Yes it was. Too bad his supporters showed no class by booing every time Obama's name was mentioned. Reminded me of |

Now that the election is over its time to pull together and get this country back on the right track and
IF IF IF IF IF both Mc cain and Obama were serious in thier respective concession/acceptance speaches (both words and actions) then last night was a good start i would have to say that the concession speach of Mr. John Mc Cain was one of the best speaches i have heard from him during his whole campain(and iam not saying this because it was a concession speach)especially sine he acknowledged the accomplishments of obama and mentioning the fact that it was sad that obamas grandma did not live long enough to see obamas biggest history making accomplishment even when the mc cain supporters wanted to boo the new president elect mc cain nipped it in the butt..and obamas statments that he hears what people who did not vote for him are saying (i have not heard the whole Obama speach yet as i got tied up with other important matters during his speach so i got to watch the recorded version today) I want to say congrats to both Obama and Mc cain for the way you both handled yourselves on Nov 4. 2008 |

You have lost all respect for this forum based on one guy/gal's stupid wording? You say you don't want the divisiveness...but I am beginning to wonder...you pulled out a quote from another thread....the only even 1/2 way "in your face, Repubs" statement I might add.......and then say you have lost respect for this forum. I don't get it and I am disappointed. Maybe I need to lose respect for this forum too. I usually give the benefit of the doubt. Now I am doubting the other way. |

I have been a member of this forum almost since it began 3 + years ago. I have never changed my profile/screen name. I have seen members come and go and be reinvented, with very dramatic "goodbye, cruel forum" speeches.
I never thought I would be here getting ready to do the same! lol But here goes...I am inspired by the changing winds in our country and have been reminded that I need to "do" more and talk about it less. Maybe I felt like I could only talk about things before because of the past political climate. Maybe I let it hold me back. Well, no more. I have enjoyed the discussions, heated and humorous, serious and kidding around....but I am done with the "talking"...I am going to go try and "do" more! Take care! trisha |

Yeah we have to focus on what's best for the nation as a whole. Obama knows this unless he just wants to be a 1 term president. If he does anything extremely radical then he will be replaced in the next election. w w w . my space / eretzsus |

First of all, congrats to the BO for his win. I found the above quote very interesting and very well stated. I do have a question regarding it. What does it mean to you? Does it mean that during the BO administration, if something fails, we failed together as a nation and one people? If so, does this same mindset apply to previous admins in the past. During these administrations we where still one nation, one people, right? I guess what I am getting at is, do any of you see that because of this statement, will the old philosophy of it happened during the Bush admin it was Bush's fault, change to it happened during the BO admin, we as a nation are at fault? I am just curious. Go Green: This post was made with 100% Recycled Data |

I agree. I thought McCain's speech was great and was disappointed in the people booing. I thought this one of the first glimpses of the "real" McCain. |

It means when the government fails we all lose. We have to be vigilant and hold our government accountable as this election did. |
