Hey, fellow Golden Eagles! (It was the golden Eagles, right? - I know the colors were gold and white because I still remember that itchy gold pep club skirt).
Saw in the paper that Waller is 50 and made me think of all the wonderful memories I have of the place. Art/music/speech rotation, helping in the library (or was that high school?) getting to school early so we could congregate outside, throwing pennies to see if we could get them to stay on the ledge, standing around in the back of the school after lunch. Mr. Schneider, Mrs. Ice, Mrs. Mourer, Mr. Rockwell, Mrs. Moberly (is that right?) the gym teacher... what was her name? When I think of my time there compared to my kids' experiences in middle school I feel really lucky to have been there at that time. I still stay in touch with some of the friends I made there even though I haven't lived in Enid (and neither have they) for years and years. Would love to hear some more Waller memories -- anyone? Hail to thee oh DeWitt Waller, al ma mater hail! |

I remember Mr. Dunbar's 'salt-n-pepper' toupee.
Mr. Schneider, now he was a gym teacher, right? |

When I was there in the late 60's-70's, I had Mrs. Worley for PE. She was wonderful, Mrs. Ice for chorus (she wore one dress for the week), and Lois and Mildred Botkins (sp?). My aunt worked in the office. I love Waller. I do believe those years were the best.

Mrs. Worley! That's it! Mr. Schneider taught math when I was there but I think he became the principal. The Botkin sisters!! Little and Big! The history teaching one used to tell us not to read Time magazine because it was Communist - you could tell by the red borders. |
