All of the political discussion that dominates these boards lately is getting a bit old. I thought maybe a board recognizing some of the positive things that happen around here might be refreshing.
So, I will start us off by thanking the young man that installed my headlight free of charge this weekend in the parking lot of Auto Zone. I purchased a new bulb and was inquiring if anyone had a clue as to how to access it to install it. A customer in the store volunteered to go outside and install it for me. He grabbed a handful of tools and headed to my car. He spent 15 minutes in the cold (without a jacket)installing a bulb in my car. I offered him $20 for his time and he refused. His kindness will not soon be forgotten. I realize it was a small thing, but at the moment, it was a big deal to me! Surely, others have similar stories....we have so many great people in Greensburg! |

Hairdresser.... I cannot agree more about all the political nonsense that is going on in this forum. It is bad enough it is on the radio and every channel on the TV and all over the internet. I thought your posting was a refreshing break. Some people just love to beat a dead horse and sling insults at each other and I personally love reading the warm fuzzy stories. Reminds me there are still kind people in the world, and restores my faith in humanity.....

Today I was witness to a random act of kindness. An older woman came to the stop light by the Circle K on Lincoln St. When she stopped her trunk was not latched all the way, and it flew open. Another lady stopped her car, got out and closed the trunk, waved and went on her way. It's nice to know there are still good people out there.

I was away from town when my daughter experienced trouble with her car. She took it to Cars & Coatings.
Owner Tim Blasdel repaired it and allowed her to take the car that day at no charge. He just asked that when I returned that I stop by and pay him. In a day of hustle bustle and "Trust No One" attitudes this is well above the mark in the area of customer service! |

i would just like to share about a customer i had come into my business.
he needed a gallon of paint and told me what he wanted. i went back put it on the shaker and then rang him up for his purchase. while i was back getting his paint, he was busy folding a dollar bill into this neat little oragamy shirt complete with a collar! he handed it to me and thanked me for my service. i will never unfold that dollar...it is a reminder that there are a lot of truly wonderful people in this world. this man's positive attitude was just awesome! he truly glowed. to me he is just one of those angels that are present in our world. |

My 81 year old father has been ill on and off for the last few years with breathing and many other problems. This spring when his breathing problems were flaring up my mother and their care giver was checking his oxygen level with an expensive little gadget we purchased a few years ago that clamps on his finger. One of the times they used this gadget the battery indicator started flashing. These two ladies decided they could fix it so they turned it over and there was a tiny screw and a little slot where the battery goes. First they tried every screwdriver they could find to turn the tiny screw but no luck. Then they got out a steak knife and tried but the stubborn little screw just wouldn't turn. In desperation they stuck the knife into the little slot thinking they could pry the lid off in spite of the screw. This action split the case all the way down the side making the part that clamped the gadget onto the finger useless. At that point they called me and I came over to see what had happened. It needed the battery and I thought maby we could still use it by tying a rubber band around the broken part until I could order a new one.
I took the gadget with me to my tool box and the tiny torx screw was nearly half the size if my smallest torx screwdriver. I knew a jeweler would have tiny tools and batteries so I took it to Stephenson's Jewelry on the south side of the Greensburg square . I showed the broken thing to Connie behind the counter and she said she would take it to the back. In a few minutes she came out with the odd little battery but it was much larger than any watch battery so they didn't have one like it. She suggested Radio Shack so off I went. Radio Shack had the one I needed so I took it back to Stephenson's. While I was gone the jeweler had re-glued the broken case making it good as new. He put in the new battery and we tried it. I thanked them for all their help and tried to pay for their time and trouble. They refused to accept payment and said your father has always been a customer of ours and we were glad to help. I thanked them again and hurried back with the fully repaired gadget. Stephenson's is a life saver literally!!! By the way my father is doing great now |

I would like to tell about a lady I don't think she really realizes the impact she made on me that day. I worked at a gas station I had known this lady at my previous job the wife and husband came in almost everyday to eat lunch there. The nice lady came into the station and we would chat on several ocassions. One day she came in and was at the back of the line and one of the customers wished me a happy birthday so when the nice lady had her turn she asked me if it was my birthday I said no it was the previous day. She left and shortly she came back with a red rose in a vase with a nice card saying how she enjoyed chatting with me. what she didn't know was i had lost my mother to cancer two months before and was having a hard time it was the first birthday without my mother I will never forget her act of kindness I just wanted her to know I will never forget.

I hope this won't come off as bragging, because that isn't why I'm writing this. I just thought you all may sometimes wonder if teenagers think of anyone besides themselves (at least not all the time)
Our youngest is a freshman at Purdue. In addition to his studies and part time job (actually 2 right now) he has become active at Purdue Campus Chritian House (this makes his mother glad to know he is attending church!) He and a group of other college students are planning on spending part of their Christmas break in Galvaston working with cleanup from Hurrican Ike. I am very proud that he has decided to do this-with no prompting from us. He emailed me one day a few weeks ago & very matter-of-factly stated he was going. In addition, he is considering applying for an internship with Mission Indy-a program to work in the inner city of Indianapolis with mission outreach. Now, his major at Purde is animal science, but he beleives these programs are important to be involved in & his father & I feel he will learn a lot of life lessons from both. I commend him and the other young people willing to do what a lot of others, including some of us "old folks" won't. Knowing he is becoming a caring, compassionate adult gives me "warm fuzzies" |

I have a warm fuzzy, although it comes at a cost to the big oil companies.
I just filled my tank for $27 for 16 gallons of gas and it makes me and my pocketbook feel good. There was a time not too long ago when $27 wouldn't take me much more than a quarter of a tank of gas. Now if this hurts the profits of Exxon Mobile or a big company like that, then I'm not really sorry. If it hurts a filthy rich guy in Saudi Arabi, then I'm not really sorry. If low gas prices hurts the American economy (which I don't think it does) and the stock market, then I am sorry. My family will be happy I saved some money to spend on other needful things, so thanks to those who have lowered the gas prices for whatever reason. I think I'll spend the little leftover money right here in Greensburg for Christmas and help out a local business. |
