What a surprise from a guy who has spent his life playing the race card. He continues to attack everything that isn't black. Look for Al "The Joke" Sharpton to show up with his pal Jesse, if Jackson isn't busy at a supermarket or car wash opening somewhere.

What struck me as the oddest thing along those lines is that Wright stresses he is a Pastor first and foremost, and then spends a whole lot of time talking politics.

I suppose that is to be expected, but I don't hold Obama responsible for Wright's views, any more than I'd hold Dubya responsible for Falwell & Roberston's.

I do like the idea of all this getting aired in the open, more or less, though. It's high time it did.

While you like the idea that this is playing out in the media, Michael, Obama's camp sees this as a headache that needs to go away. I say, keep playing these clips and interviews, after all, according to the "pastor," Obama only distanced himself for political purposes.

In a sense none of us, Obama included, has any other choice.

After seeing what has happened to Dubya in the past seven years, I'd say Obama had best BE able to endure this thing adroitly, or else he wouldn't make much of a President.

So far, although his campaigners are apoplectic about it, the candidate himself seems to be carrying on just fine.

My point about it being played out was simply, as you might agree Kevin... that it just has not been played out quite this thoroughly in the past, and probably should be at some level. I guess nobody except Wright has gotten to choose WHEN to play it out... so, the horse is definitely out of the barn, over the fence and munching clover in the next county altogether.

Wright does have a right to defend himself as he sees fit, and looks like a LOT of people are more than happy to give him all the forums he can use to do so in.

It would have happened sooner or later as long as Obama is in the hunt for or the Presidency. Maybe it'll turn out to be for the better that it happens now instead of at a worst time later on.

In any case, this'll keep the pundits flapping their chops for the next several weeks, and I'm sure it'll come up in every other speech given by anybody Republican come November.

What is more, it will STILL keep being repeated all the way throughout an Obama Presidency.

He's got to deal with it. 80% of what Wright says is also said using other words by agitators and activists on both the Right and the Left every single day. 15% of what Wright says is limited to his interpretation of christianity and the experience of American blacks... about which nobody not IN that group will ever know a thing. 5% of what he says seems to me to be totally nutso.

So, it is time for us all to learn... to learn not what WE want to learn, but to learn what Wright believes we NEED to learn.

Time will tell whether the lesson sinks in, or is presented in such a way as to sink in.

Fortunately, Obama is of a newer generation which is far less susceptible to that kind of anger and dwelling in the past.

Boy I hope he is from a generation that is different. It's always the same thing...

They are always talking about things that I cannot answer for nor will any living persons apologies change. Slavery was deplorable but, I wasn't there. If a black man makes good decisions and works hard like the rest he is rewarded, if he sells cocaine, shoots his old lady or other lawless acts he is arrested. That happens to be the same thing that happens to whites, hispanics, Koreans, Cubans .....

If Imos in the morning says nappy headed ho's Rev. Al says he should be fired forever apologize a thousand times and buried under the NAACP headquarters. If Vick bank rolls a dog fighting ring and gets caught he says a couple years is unjust punishment and that we must leave a man room to rehabilitate himself and that we cannot hold a man down forever.
(2 years?)

If Mr. Wright wants to preach the word that is fine but he cannot do that in efforts to quell his racist remarks. Get off the slave ship dude and focus on the now.

That is true... and also of several other stereotypes.

The difference between Obama and Wright is that Obama has already gone as far past stereotyping as is possible for now, while Wright is stuck on it as victim and victor.
