What a great display of sportsmanship! If you guys wanna see more good sportsmanship, you should watch Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 tonight around 8PM. I guarantee you will see two guys try to knock each others' heads off, then warmly hug and congratulate each other on a great fight afterwards.

You see the same thing in UFC. It's also much faster paced than boxing. This is coming from a boxing fan as well. I can't get into boxing anymore thanks to UFC.

Yeah..except in UFC they do their hugging during the fight. Big Grin I think they need a stalling rule like they have in Olympic wrestling--if they are just tied up not doing anything then break them up and put 'em on their feet. The few times I watched UFC it was two guys rolling around on the mat throwing girl punches.

Actually, Pete, they do stand them up if the guy who is on top isn't capitalizing on his being on top.

I wouldn't say that they were girl punches considering I've seen several bouts where guys get knocked out (on a more regular basis than boxing). I also bet you wouldn't call them girl punches if you were the one being punched, now would you. Wink

When they throw a punch that's all arm motion with nothing behind it (like they usually do on the mat) it's a girl punch. And if I got hit with one, I'd show 'em how it's done.

Most of the guys who do well at UFC are former wrestlers, BTW.

Many of them are former wrestlers, yes, but many more are practicing martial artists with dojos where they train others.

Look at Matt Serra, the former welter-weight champ, he's not a former wrestler, and he owns a gym in NeW York, where he turns out fighters. He's also one of the few Gracie Ju-gistu (spelling is WAY off) masters in the United States.

What you have probably seen is where one guy is on top of the other, in full guard, and trying to dwindle the guy on bottom's blocking and gain an opening for a rear-naked choke or arm bar or some other submission hold. What you probably haven't seen is the elbow that cuts the guy's head wide open and knocks the sh_it out of him.

You may think that you'd show them how it's done, but I truly think (not knowing you or your fighting ability), that the only thing you might be able to show them is how to hit the mat while saying "night, night." There is a show on Spike that you might try to get on to, called "Joes vs Pros." It's perfect for arm chair fighters and jocks, where they repeatedly get their asses handed to them by the pros they think they can beat.

I'll stick to boxing, I never was worth a crap at wrestling! If my left hook won't save me, I'm running! Eeker

Yeah, well unfortunately my age puts me past competitive fighting. Big Grin

I really wish UFC had been around when I was younger. I never lost a bout in Navy-Marine smokers, and at 6'7" I have pretty good reach. Plus I wrestled in high school and college, and this is the guy who trained me in martial arts:

So I may be old, but I ain't no sissy, Kevin Wink

Ok, we hijacked the thread long enough--back to comments about those amazing girl softball players. You don't often see sportsmanship like that on the men's side--even in little league they teach boys to taunt their opponents: "Hey batter batter SWING!"

Hell, in some little league games, the boys are shown REAL sportsmen-like conduct when they see one of their dads ejected from the game for fighting!

What really sticks with me on this, is the fact that if those women hadn't helped her, their team would have won the game.

Yeah Cline,
That is the thing that got me right away.
They carried that girl at their own cost. No one else could have done it, and no one would have blamed them or even thought of it if they hadn't.

Well done.
