Born, raised, and current resident ------------ "Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could.†- William F. Buckley |

The nerve of them people... dying! I'm going to shut up now, at least on this thread. Hijacking The Beer Thread is somewhat sacrilegious. |

I moved to this area in 1987. Moved to KC for a while and had to come back for family reasons. After the kids are raised (which is soon) we will move back to the bigger city.
I grew up on the west coast, she grew up in chicago. we have lived in KC and Chicago and will go back to one of them. I have made some good friends here, but...... |

I moved to Joplin from KC in High School, which kinda sucked leaving my friends from Jr. High and grade school behind, but made some friends in Joplin too. Since HS, I'm like that Johnny Cash song: "I've been everywhere." If I had to pick one place and stay permanently, I'd pick San Diego. Great weather, great town, tons to do and see. Might retire there and live on a sailboat.

Born and raised in Webb City. With the exception of two God-awful years in Enid, OK (truly the assh*le of the universe if there ever was one) I've lived my entire life either in Webb City, Pittsburg (during college) or KC, where I live now, and have for a dozen years. I would love to get back to Webb City, but my current salary doesn't seem to mesh with the cost of living there, oddly enough. As soon as I can find a job that pays me anywhere near what I'm making here, there, I'm home. Until then, I'm here in KC.

By the way... the Ayinger rocked. Good stuff. Really good stuff.
I didn't drink the Sam's I'm waiting until tomorrow to do that. It's on draft, and there are specials on Thursdays, etc. Same with the Boulevard and the Bob's. They all wait a day. I did drink the Warsteiner Dunkel, the St. Pauli Girl Dark and the Beck's Oktoberfest. The Warsteiner was good. The other two earn absolute "meh" ratings from me. Not great, not suck-ass. Just good beers, which is okay, I guess. I did manage to sneak some of my brews in to the bar, in violation of every know alcohol law. My friends tried them. Their thoughts? The American lager (Bud clone) is a little green (not surprising, only 5 days in the keg). The IPA earned an enthusiastic "wow", and my American stout got a "wait, YOU brewed this? Can I buy this?" rating, which I consider to be a good one. I might be on to something here. All I need is a really gullible capital investment banker. I'm a decade too late, eh? |

John, let me know when you get your brewery financed and are ready to start up. I'll network your computers. Even set up your phones. But you might want to use me on a contract basis--since if I was around full time I might drink your profit margin!

Delirium Nocturnum Part II:
Well I think I'm going to change my mind on this one. I started the night off with a couple Duvel Belgian Golden Ales and then switched to Bully Porter for a while... now on Delirium Nocturnum and it tastes pretty damn good. A bit winier than I'd like but still good. |

I like the Tremons--haven't tried the Nocturnum yet.
Any opinions on Stella Artois? I was at a restaurant tonight that had the usual bland import list, but I saw they had the Stella, and since it is a Belgian I ordered it--and naturally the fuc_kers were out!! Now I'll have to find it and try it. Had to settle for Sam Adams on tap. |

I wasn't impressed with Stella... pretty skunky and bland really.

It's a seasonal beer, and if they sit too long they get skunky.

Stella? Nah, it's a year-round product. It's the exposure to sunlight that skunks it, causing a photosythetic type reaction in the isometrized hops, and too many retailers (and sadly, a good number of distributors) make no real effort to keep beer out of sunlight. Brown bottles help a tiny bit, whereas green bottle and especially clear bottles do noting to stop sunlight from skunking beers. But any beer exposed to sunlight for even a short period will skunk. |

Ah, I read that it was brewed as a Christmas beer, so I assumed it was seasonal, but later in the article it says it is brewed year round and bottled by Becks.

Speaking of seasonal... got Sam Adams Oktoberfest for tonight. Going to start off with Paulaner Salvator though.

Oh man, starting with Salvator is going to ruin the O-fest. There's so much malt richness and flavor to doppelbocks that you won't really taste much anything when you get to the Sam's. I'd go the other way around. |
