It's made by Stone Brewery in Escondido (San Diego) California. They make all kinds of really good brews. Their regular IPA is one of my favorites, and their Ruination Ale (so named because it's so hoppy one sip ruins your taste buds... hah!) is also fantastic.
Arrogant Bastard has its own web site, it's so freakin' popular. Just click here. It shows the first part of the back label text on the site. They also make a "double" version, and an oak-aged version. You can bet I'll be bringing a couple bottles home with me from this GABF trip! |

When I get time, I'll let you all know about some of the fantastic brews I got to sample at this year's Great American Beer Festival. Just amazing stuff! No other country brews beer like we do these days.

Wow, I let this one slack, didn't I? About time I added to this.
GABF was fantastic, by the way. Any beer drinker should make the trek at least once in his or her lifetime. It's like Mecca for beer lovers. Where else can you get unlimited one ounce samples of almost 2000 different beers, surrounded by fellow beer fanatics? Just a great time. Many beers were consumed that are not available here in Kansas or Missouri. Some amazing stuff out there. Blue Moon (yes, that Blue Moon) makes a beer from peanut butter that is truly fantastic. Tastes like liquid peanut brittle, in a way. Some great sour Belgian style ales made here in the US as well. For hop heads, getting the opportunity to sample beers like Dogfish Head's 120 Minute IPA is great, and even better in my opinion, the opportunity to try the best double IPA in the world, Pliny The Elder from Russian River brewery in California. Right now I'm sitting in my garage brewing my own beer, what will eventually be a very large (~8.5% ABV) stout with chocolate and coffee, and drinking a beer called "Billy's Chilis" from Twisted Pine brewery in Colorado. It's made with Anahein, Fresno, Serrano, Jalapeno, and Habenaro peppers. Don't confuse it with that "Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer" crap. This one is phenomenal. It's not hot, really, but it has a bit of pop, and a remarkable pepper flavor. It helps that the underlying beer is really well done as well. The pepper is enough it cuts through the Oliva "Nub" 464 Cameroon that I'm enjoying as well, while waiting on my brew to come to a boil. Just a great time, and good beer brought home with me as well. As exhausting a weekend as it is every year, I'm already planning on going back Sept. 24-26 2009. Hope to see some of you there! I wouldn't call myself a connoisseur of beer but I have put back a few hundred gallon in my younger days. I can't imagine why a person would want a beer that tasted like peanut butter or chocolate or anything else but beer. Call me ignorant, but give me an ice cold long neck Budweiser anytime.

I guess it's hard to explain to be honest. It's sort of like how, while I like listening to the Eagles, etc., I also go for some Mozart once in awhile. There's much more to beer than just the American lager. There's a place for that type of beer, and I don't turn my nose up at one, but there's an art to brewing as well, and what some of these brewers can do is just amazing once you try it.

I went to the website to check out the beer festival and the numbers were impressive. With that much beer no wonder it was sold out.

It's well worth attending, at least once.
