Hey Sportsfans it's a great day for football!
With pre-season just out of the way it's time to do or die, every week our teams give a pigskin pounding guarenteed to send the losers home with tears in their eyes and we love it. What do you say we keep a little freindly banter, a lil weekly reader as the season progresses? Who's your team? It would be a nice relief to throw it around the yard here once in a while. No ones view or opinion of any team or player is off limits just keep it fun and on the topic (I dont mind a little roughing up every now and then if someone needs it in good fun). Myself I am a seasoned veteran fan of the Chiefs. (yes I know, Ive gotten used to the myriad of slams that come with it I look for, ahem.. a..challenging season to say the least for 08. I dont say 08 - 09 cause I dont think we will be playing that late this year. But in my mind no matter what the score, win or lose, The Cheifs are the greatest! (in this thread we are allowed variable degrees of denial) So lets hear it if your game, It should turn into a lot of fun by seasons end. Bring it! |

I'm another long-suffering Chiefs and Royals fan. I was transplanted to Joplin in HS, but in my youth I lived in KC and was a ball-boy for the Chiefs. Got to know many of the Chiefs greats including Len Dawson and Jan Stenerud, along with coach Hank Stram and most of the guys on the Chiefs circle of fame. Playing for the Chiefs was my dream growing up, but my playing-days ended in college.
The Chiefs will suck as long as Peterson is GM. He is the worst player-personnel manager in history. His pick of Todd Blackledge in the 83 quarterback bonanza will stand as the all-time greatest bone-head pick ever. He chose Blackledge over the likes of Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Ken O'Brien and Tony Eason--and could've traded up for John Elway. He finds a gem like Derrick Thomas and Albert Lewis now and then, but then trades them away or releases them in exchange for zero. Case in point: letting Tony Richardson go to Minnesota--for what? And notice how KC's offense sputtered last year without Richardson blasting holes for LJ to run through? I want Peterson to die in a drunk-driving crash with Royals owner David Glass. That would be better than a post-season appearance for both teams. |

Yeah I agree, some of the decisions over the years have been as combative to his team as PA's posts are to any thread.
Over the years we have had some great times, though I feel like we started that strange shift in decision making all the way back when Dave Kreig was the QB. yeah we had some outstanding players and some exciting years since but it just seemed like a down hill slide and has lead to where we are at. It's like we get good players, make them great and get them to another team as soon as we can get their market value up. It has taken it's toll on not only the team but the fans and the way the league commentators completely disregard us in any situation. i normally turn the sound down on the t.v. and turn up the game on the radio On a lighter note I hope to see our new recruits kind of fall in love with K.C. as a home and become stickers like Gonzales. J. Allen really brought me down but I guess I can't blame him for the offer he got 74 mil for a 5-6 year contract when you do the math on the amount of regular season games (as you know playoffs are extra) that turns into some thunder bucks. Could write all day but gotta shoot across town |

Mr Hunt was a great guy. He used to come to practices, and he would always say hi to me even though I was a 13 year-old kid.
Jared Allen was one of those brilliant Peterson moves. Draft an unheralded guy and develop him into a star, then lose him in a bidding war and wave bye bye. If he wasn't going to make him the franchise player or pay what it takes to keep him, he should have traded him for some D-backs or draft picks. But just like he has done with other top players too numerous to name--he tries to hang on to them when it's contract time, but ends up letting them go to other teams and gets nothing in return. And he lets a guy like Rich Gannon go so he can keep Elvis Gerbac. The rest of the league is hoping Peterson stays in KC forever. |

Well this weekend we try out the final product. The chiefs will play the season opener at Gillette Stadium. It is only the third time we have opened a season against the Pats. Once in 77' and the time before that it was the Dallas texans vs. the Boston Patriots.
I realize they havent dropped a season opener at home for quite a while but the last time it happened it was against Herm and the Jets! (I have learned to glean hope from just about anything so this is huge) I would like to see us come out smokin like NY, I was actually suprised to see the Giants beat Redskins but they did it quite handly. The flag is flyin and I'm ready to yell at the t.v. for another season. |

The Monday night showdown, Vikings vs. Green Bay! I am not the biggest Pro-Football fan in the world, but since my homies always ask me to join a fantasy football league, I will be glued to Monday night's games since I have Adrian Peterson and Bernard Berrian playing.
Oh, for you Chiefs fans out there I have Dwayne Bowe on my team too. |

I'm a huge Chiefs fan. Huge. But I see maybe five wins out of them this year. I wouldn't be surprised if they're 1-4 when they hit the bye, with only the Oakland game in KC in week 2 or Atlanta on the road in week 3 being viable victories (but not both unless they really get lucky).
Otherwise I see possible victories versus Tennessee, at the Jets (I'm not buying the Favre hype), versus Miami and at Cincinnati. Fortunately I'm also a Saints fan (yeah, the early 80s were fun for me as an NFL viewer.. sheesh), so I'll have someone to root for this year. |

Wow I thought I was the only guy struck with the Chiefs/Saints plague. The best game I got to go see was when we played them the last game of the year (don't remember the year 94-95?). I sat in absolutly freezing rain right above the K.C. tunnel but it was great. I sat next to a gal that was dating Horn and was trying to keep his slot on the team for the next season. We just sat there rooting for the underdogs (both teams) together. Yeah, I think Favre is hype also. I wanted him to lose to us so bad last year. We were the last team left that he had never beat. |

I've been following the Saints since they hired Hank Stram after the second-worst personnel man in NFL history fired him as Chiefs head coach. Never thought anybody could be worse than Jack Steadman, but Petersen rose to the challenge. Stram was and is the ONLY Chiefs coach to take them to a Super Bowl--twice. And actually won the second one. But he didn't have enough magic to lift the Saints to glory..such is the luck..

The Chiefs will start this year with hand full of rookies and a few vets to point the way. They are comparable to an expansion team at this time. I feel like a rough road is definately in the future but, it will be a fun year watching them grow.
I know that Herm knows how to beat the Pats, but it is up to the players to get it done. I am glad we are facing an excellent team right out of the box, just to get it over with for the new guys. That way they don't spend two or three games watching it come at them, getting antsy. They are fresh now and are hungry and ready to shine for their first year. Just four more hrs! GO CHIEFS! |

Well it was a tough game but I can't say i've got the blues. I think with 15 rookies the Chiefs did and amazing job against a tough veteran team. It actually has me a little more optomistic about the near future.
I think playing a winning team right off the bat had the therapeutic affect I had hoped for. Going into the Raiders at home next week should be a big boost and a great reception for these younger players. Hopefully Brody Croyle isn't too banged up to return soon and keep a good even consistency through the regular season. I'm just foolish enough to believe in an outside chance of a playoff shot. happily hopeless. |

I disagree. I hope Croyle is too banged up to go next week. As bad as Huard is, he's still better than Croyle or Thigpen. Pretty sad when your starting quarterback depth chart is "Suck, Suckier, and Suckiest". And "suck" is the second stringer.
And while I never, ever want to see a player injured, could it happen to a more deserving team? Seriously? If Tom Brady is out for the year, I'll feel bad for him personally for a few minutes, and then I'll do a little happy dance, as well as flipping off every picture of Bill Belichick I can find. If there is a team that has earned negative karma points, it's the Patriots. I don't want to see any player or team affected by injury like that. But if it has to happen... YEAH, BABY! And on a clean hit, too, no less. Without Brady, they're a 9-7 team, tops. No playoffs for The Cheat this year. Maybe the Patriots players can sit on the couch with the Chiefs and watch the playoffs this year, and explain where it all went wrong. Anyway, I'm fairly pleased with the Chiefs performance, all things considered. They had a chance to tie at the end, but for the woeful quarterback play. What more can you ask against what was the best team in the NFL before their starting QB went out with a knee injury? Ah well, we'll get a win against the Raiders next week, and Bill Belichick will be left to ponder the mysteries of karma. F*ck the Patriots, and go Chiefs! EDIT: Carl Peterson, pick up line one, please. Duante Culpepper is on the phone. Mr. Peterson, line one, please. (A man can dream ,can't he?) This message has been edited. Last edited by: John O, |
