If the state decides to start testing people when they renew their drivers license then they need to do all age groups. It is wrong just to single out one age group. As I drive a school bus every day I see people of all age groups doing illegal driving. The drivers above 70 are more aware then those between 20 and 50.

Well, I don't know about everyone, but I definitely think your reflexes slow the older you get. This is a good idea. After 65, annual testing should be required by law.

It is this writers opinion that The instigator of age discriminatory drivers frequency testing is born more out of anger for his daughter's accident rather tham his consideration for others safety.
It seems to me that He is wanting to penalize all over a minimum age by discrimnatory testing.
It is obvious at least to me that he is not considering that he may just live to be among the cronological group he wishes to target.
I hope he is never a victim of his discriminatin of a sector of the public by age.
Our Federal Government states by law that discrimination by age, sex, gender, or race is in violation of personal rights.

Yeah, right. That's why 3 year olds can buy handguns and infants can vote.

Testing should be manditory after a certain age. And that is not discrimitory towards anyone. As a 16 year law enforcement vet. I can honestly tell you that most accidents I worked were caused by elderly people, that is just a fact. The only fatality accident while I was on the job was an elderly man running over a man walking along the parking area at the side of the street.Yes I think the elderly should be tested. If you want to talk about being discriminatory because of thier age, then you should also complain about the minimum drinking age, ins't that disrimintory? Or the age for consentual sexual activity. Yes each of these have reasons for the ages that have been choosen, each a good reason. Why would it be a bad thing to have elderly tested to make sure they can actually drive a 3 1/2 ton piece of metal down the street?

Since my first reply to this article, I ventured onto Rangeline by traveling through Webb City via Madison street. Then onto 7th street to Schiffercecker, then back to Webb City tracing my origanal path. No less than three times, young drivers cut across the left turn lanes I was entering with stop lights in operation. Not one old woman or man did so.
These young drivers all aparenltly in age younger than thirty or no more than, nearly hit me making opposing left turns across my path.
If any law enforcement officer, especially one with 16 years experience was truly interested in preventing accidents, he/she would be on the street patrolling, and stopping these law breakers and counciling them on safe driving. Perhaps instead of writing them tickets, which they pay and after leaving court continue their sins of the road. These offenders should have to enroll in a safe driving school.

Before you rage at me with all the excusses of case load, paperwork, and the myriad of excuses I hear, think about whether you as an officer of the law could and should be doing a better job. If you can honestly say you are, then I will by your donuts and coffee at the convienience store You prefer while apologising..

I think being in Joplin is a double wammy for us. The drivers here are absolutely the worst I've ever seen. I have lived in four states, and countless towns and I'm telling you they suck here. I get cut off and nearly ran over by every age, ethnic group and background. has anyone ever told these folks that the center lane is for beggining and ending left hand turns? I have seen more people sitting at a dead stop in the fast lane backing up traffic waiting on oncoming cars to pass while a completely empty center lane is right next to them!
I took my daughter to take her written drivers exam and I was completely blown away, it had only 25 questions and you could miss 5. I took my exam in L.A. and it was 100 questions and you could only miss 5.

It aint gonna get no betta!

I have driven in California, from San Diego to Sacromento, through the Los Angeles area, from the Ocean to the east border. Please spare me of the value of the California 100 question test or it's supposed superiority.
Whether on the 5, the 405, the 15 or the 615, or any of the other multi lane roads, they will run you down.
No doubt Rangeline has its share of horrible drivers. No one teaches patience any more.Nor practices common courtesy.
I did see a person hesitate just slightly last evening to let another motorist enter Rangeline from a parking lot.

Uh, where do I mention the superiority? have you had too much turkey? I was simply saying that a few more questions on the exam couldn't hurt around here.

Well, as mundane as it may sound, we don't get a whole lot of interstate drive-by shootings. Wonder how many questions that takes up on the CA tests. Roll Eyes

Missouri went to the multi-year driver's license several years ago--at one time you had to renew it and take a vision test every year, and they asked if you were on certain prescription drugs or if you had any seizures, etc. Now they issue licenses for TEN YEARS! We inspect automobiles every two years! Whether you are talking about elderly folks or young people, doesn't it make sense to check their ability to drive at least as often as we check the cars they drive? If you give someone a license at 60, do you suppose their health might change by the time they are 70? Like maybe they've had a stroke or are on high blood pressure medicine, or their vision has deteriorated? But let's be fair--everyone needs to be checked at a minimum of every two years. Most eyeglasses prescriptions are updated at least that often.

BTW, drivers suck everywhere. There is no place that has "good" or safe drivers anymore. They suck in Canada too, but that's mostly jerks from the USA. We no longer teach people to drive, we don't expect courtesy or expect people to have consideration for others, and we only have enough law enforcement to chase down some of the worst speeders. We need to set a national speed limit and put governors on engines so that no private car can exceed that speed. And we need more enforcement to nail people for failure to yield, improper lane changes, failure to signal, and talking on a cell phone while driving.

Statistically speed and/or impaired driving causes most fatal accidents, irrespective of age.

Another cause is small town police officers seemingly the only ones in town that do not know a multiple DWI and revoked is driving on a regular basis. At least not until somebody gets killed or seriously injured.

Pete; this is just my way of agreeing with you on the enforcement issue and adding something to it.

You did seem to imply CA, superiorty when you stated that Ca had 100 questions, and Mo only had 20. Now you are insulting folks of Kansas.
And, just what makes you think I even have a DL.?

Yeah, why insult the fine folks of Kansas? (who beat Mizzou today} Big Grin
I have a Kansas D.L., among others, Wink.
All I had to do was maneuver a tractor around an Amish horse and buggy without spilling my beer. No problem.
