Hey RN,

Glad to hear you’re going to Disneyworld for your anniversary, it’s one of my all-time favorite places. I’m not a fan at all of Disney as an entity, but I would give serious thought to becoming a full-time janitor and sleeping on the benches at night as long as they let me wander around throughout the parks during the day.

It’s been a while, but the first time I went to Disney World, we stayed at a timeshare pretty close to the park. Actually, there are a zillion nice hotels/motels all in the area, and most of them have shuttles to Disney World if you don’t feel like driving (we had a rental car and would just go back and forth). The second time was one of the hotels on Disney property. It was one of the more budget-oriented types of hotels, but there really is a wide range of lodgings within the park. They all have shuttles that go back and forth to the different parks on a regular basis. Also, when we stayed at one of the Disney hotels, they would keep the park open an extra hour or two just for hotel guests every once in a while. That alone made the on-site lodgings preferable.

There are a ton of great places to eat. My favorite was a little Japanese steakhouse in Epcot. It was amazing. Also, Epcot has a nightly fireworks show that is just incredible. I’d recommend catching it at least once. Out of all of the parks, Epcot was my favorite, mostly because they had so much extra stuff to do. There weren’t really any great rides to speak of, but the parades and musical acts were amazing.

Hope this helps, and that you have a great time.

Personally, I think the whole Disney/Orlando experience should be entered into knowing that it is HORRIBLY crowded, RIDICULOUSLY expensive and somewhat disappointing when you consider you spend MOST of your day standing in line surrounded by thousands of foreigners who think Disney World represents everyday America.
Not being a big fan of Disney, I'd opt for the peace of the Big Island of Hawaii or the Monterey Penninsula in California any day.
But, again, that's just me.

My parents took me to Disney World when I was close to ten and I never told them that I was very disappointed. I would have had a much better time going to a beach somewhere or even White Water. It's all hype, long lines, and expensive! Have fun!!

I also hated Disney World, but there is a nice, Spanish villa-style hotel on Disney property. There are some advantages to staying onsite, and the beach isn't a far drive.

My thanks to Flame, Nero and Sandra for great words, welcomed insight and positive thoughts.

For the others who like to 'piss on the parade'...........We realize that it is expensive, there are long lines and many ppl..................we STILL WANT TO GO.

We've been to Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, Europe, etc.......etc......etc.....this happens to be where we want to go this time.

I'm not sure why you even bothered to comment?????????????

We are planning on staying within the park and taking advantage of the shuttle service. We are taking advantage of the 'meal plans' and EXPECT to have a wonderful full week enjoying the many different parks!!

Genuine question: Isn't Disney for kids surely? I thought it was all just rides and stuff?

Since you're planning to stay on Disney property, I really do recommend checking out the Spanish-style hotel. It's nice and a little more secluded and romantic than a lot of the other options.

Also, I think there's usually one night a week when they close the park to everyone but onsite guests and they have a big parade during the extended hours.

I hope you have a nice trip.

Morf........YOU NEVER REALLY GROW UP, RIGHT??? I've been to Disneyland many, many times, but never to WDW and I'm can't wait!!!!!

My first purchase........Mickey Mouse ears with my name on them!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!! Big Grin

Oh....I envy you! I have never been to Disney World, but living in Vegas for 30 years, I have been to Disneyland over 100 times! I love anything "Disney". I will tell you that there are a lot of simularities between the places and the rides (my best friend works security at Disneyland!) On the Haunted Mansion as well as the Pirates rides....be sure to look for all the "hidden" Mickey's. You will find the famous icon in the place settings on the table inside the haunted mansion, at the party. You will find the icons in the walls of the battle in the Pirates ride. Just too many places to mention....but it does make it fun looking for them. Please give us an update on your trip. Hope its a great time!

Will do Nova!

We won't be going until after the new year, but I'm getting so excited about it!

One of the physicians I work with just got back and the photos are so fun to look at. He says he had more fun than his kids!!

We LOVE the rides and all the different things to enjoy. I've been to Disneyland many, many times and absolutely LOVED each time I went.....couldn't get enough!!

We plan to visit a different park each day we are there. We are just 'big kids' at heart anyway, right?

Vegas is our next trip. I have family there and have been there myself, but hubby hasn't and wants to go.

You only live once!!! Big Grin

Best to come when schools are still in session, so the crowds are low.
Not Christmas, etc. Look online for graphs that show the least busy times.

Get your tickets from your local AAA Auto Club office - will save you money and is no hassle when you get there.

Notice that Orlando/Sanford Airport is way NE of the city. WDW is way SW of Orlando. The ticket prices will be less, but if you carry a lot of stuff and don't want a long ride out, book into Orlando Regional Airport in S Orange. What most people think of as "the Orlando airport".

A very current edition of "The UNofficial Guide To Walt Disney World and the Orlando Area" is money well spent.

If you follow the tips you will see twice as much. It tells where to be at the best times and locations, what appeals to what ages, which restaurants require reservations, etc. If you don't, you will wander for hours, which is good for souvenir sales, but not for you.

A plain backpack is great - when a ride is wild, wooley or wet, you can put your camera and stuff inside, then put it on backwards.

If you put your camera on a long lanyard, attached to the inside of the backpack, you can take photos but never lose your camera. Any Disney employee will take your photo together - with your camera - if you ask them. Then clip it back into the backpack. Put in some zip lock bags to keep things sorted, dry and clean.

Put your name on a piece of tape on the camera. If a park employee finds it, they will turn it in to lost and found, but no one else will. To get it back you will have to describe the photos you took.

The park photos on wild rides are fun, but you won't ever get them out when you get home. A better buy are the ones the park pros take.

Wear good quality crosstrainers, but not brand new ones. Wear all cotton sox, and bring a spare dry pair for everyone in the bag. Florida is wet, wet, wet. Only fools wear flip flops, sandals or dress shoes.

Everyone needs a hat - with a cord to keep from losing it. The sun here is straight down and intense. Same for sun glasses - you can take the croakies off if you don't feel like you need them.

If you bring $250 sunglasses, you will probably go home without them.

Plan on going back to the hotel during the day for a couple of hours. Eat, go swimming, and relax. If you have valuables - use the hotel or room safe.

If you like to meet people, wear t-shirts that have OU, your company name, state, etc, on them. You can go almost anywhere in town in a golf shirt and docker shorts.

If you want a longer trip that is not all theme park, look online for a kayak or fishing trip. Or a day in a state park.

If you are a shopper, bring a sturdy duffle bag folded up in your other luggage to carry your outbound stuff in without overpacking your luggage.

Don't buy luggage here unless it is a brand name you know. There is some really bad quality stuff sold. Looks ok, but the wheels fall off on the way to the elevator.

Hope you enjoy your visit.
