Cobb...JKelly brings up a good idea. For those that have little to no experience, I would be interested in a "period of time" during this afternoon for those to learn. It doesn't have to be long, but 15-30 minutes of gun safety, range safety can go a looonnngg way on making this a very safe and enjoyable afternoon.

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself...M58 may have this part under control?

But for those that wish to shoot a particular weapon, if those of us with "extra" stuff, we could bring extra ammo if we could be compensated for that...could get real expensive real fast otherwise.

I remember Dave and I looking at each other after 20 minutes and 50 rounds..."that went too fast!"

Just thoughts....

I agree with a short period of gun/range safety for those unfamiliar with those practices.

As far as shooting other peoples firearms, those wanting to, are welcome to try mine if they wish.

Dave; saving empty milk jugs. Wink

Can one buy 'out dated' watermelons from a grocery store at reduced prices? Confused Wink

If I can make it to the event, "hoping that i can", I'll bring most of my toys along. A little variety: Rifles: .22LR & .243 & .17 HMR; Shotgun: 12 Ga Pump; Handguns: .22 & .9mm and hopefully soon my .357 - it shipped to my FFL friend so only a matter of time before I can go get it. And if anyone wishes to shoot a "non explosive" weapon I can bring my 1000 fps break barrel along air rifle along - its quite accurate as well.

Shooting clothespins are fine and dandy..............when my wife doesn't have clothes hanging on the line. She kinda 'frowns' on holes in the sheets and her panties. Big Grin Razzer

Seriously, old milk jugs, watermelons and 'ding' targets are a 'safe bet' for the 'Ooooh & Ahhhh' factor for us shooters. Big Grin

Oh yeah........I have a 100' tape measure so we can measure out target distances. Wink

What kind of targets are we shooting at? Do we need some clays or buy there? Still targets... I'll chip in, just let me know what.

As for the ammo/guns, I just would be put to shame showing up with my 20 gauge and 22. Looking to shoot something a little more "interesting".

I am really interested in hand guns/pistols. Toying with getting one for me.

Sorry for the absence guys, but it is NUTS at work so will be brief and back again.

If we do the range down here, we have the throwers I mentioned, and we have LOTS of clay pigeons. We have target stands and USPSA cardboard targets. We also have some bowling pins. We allow paper targets and Dave's milk jugs would be OK (we do require everything to be cleaned up after). However, we do not allow cans or glass, and we have never addressed the fruit and vegetable thing (personally I'm not one that would want to deal with cleaning up a bunch of shot up fruit). We need to be concerned with sharp objects that would hurt someone, either shooting or doing maintenance, and we need to watch for vermin that would be attracted by waste food left behind.

Hope to have time to type more later in the week, but it's off to work and a high pressure week!

I have my own place in the country, so I'm not interested in coming to this event for any shooting. I might be interested in buying, selling or trading. Is this a possibility? I'm not a dealer and I'm not interested in talking to any. I mean private individual to private individual transactions.

I retract my question about buying, selling or trading guns at this get-together, at least as far as I'm concerned. Write it off to distinctly separate philosophies between me and some in this crowd regarding the appropriate use of guns.

Looks like none of the resident experts here had an answer for the question anyway.

I am around ladies, Ms. Breez.

As for my comment above regarding the get-together, I was stating a simple fact as I see it. Call a spade a spade. Introverted? Extroverted? You tell me.

If possible, I would like to make it and supply some toys to shoot or maybe some training tips if some wanted, or act as a range safety officer or consultant. Right now my weekends are pretty much filled with classes I give, so I will have to see.

Now maybe a little off topic for you ladies. Last I year I and another put together a NRA clinic, Woman on Target, that we held at Key Cities Conservation Club. It is ladies only, only men alowed are instructors and we had 11 certified instructors with a wide range of experience. It is limited to 50 women, the fee we charged last year was $10, but I think this year it may have to increase. The fee included a light lunch and beverages, the ammunition to fire all the firearms which included shotguns at clay pigeons, semi-auto and revolvers at targets, bolt action and evil black rifles fired at steel and bowling pins, plus this year we plan to add an archery shoot at 3D targets. Door prizes which included some gift certificates to Scheels, free firearm training and also a membership to Key Cities Conservation Club among other things like hats and shirts.

The plan is for late August and I will try to post info here if any of you ladies are interested.

Would it be possible if I showed up and was able to NOT shoot and just partake of the rented ground with a chair and communicate every now and then. Ummmm, and make sure NO one would use me as a target??? Roll Eyes
