Recently I ask a road grader operator "why they leave the snow on the road edge now". He told me that they use to push snow "off" the road as far as they could. And they kept a crown on the center of the road.

Said the crown kept water running OFF the road (Makes sense to me)! And pushing the snow as far off the road as they could let the water OFF the road (once again makes sense to me)! Now they are told NOT to do that , so you make nice dams on each side of a "flatter" road and where does the water go??????? Down into the road and that does what?????? That's right you have a mushy, soft, sinking road bed to get stuck in! Now the question is "WHO DO WE THANK FOR THE ROADS THE WAY THEY ARE?" Not the grader operators, they are doing as ORDERED! Think higher up the ladder! Just my thought on the roads* A little common sense is needed when working with things.

We live on a real bad county road. We just got bus service back this week. I would like to blame the moron that has the grader guy and the gravel guy work on the roads right before it's going to rain or snow. why not to it when it dries out?

Last year we got flooded out because all the water and the gravel from the road went in our yard (the guy acrossed the way covered the drain hole that ran on his side of the road) and we had a hole in our drive that was 4ft long and 3ft deep. A week after that someone fixed the problem. Someone needs to get their head out of their a$$ and do their job.

btw we had to fix our own drive. We just used the gravel that washed into our yard.

Just a thought....

In response to "Sassy" and the complaint of the gravel roads, How does a grader operator know when it is going to rain or snow for sure???? It seems they are doing their job and as you call it getting off their a$$ but it isn't to your schedule. My challenge to you is this, You run the grader for a week and brave the weather and all other elements and see if you can do a better job. My husband works his a$$ off keeping the roads clear all winter and misses family functions such as Christmas so YOU and everyone else can get to your functions. So unless you can predict the weather better or do the job any better, SHUT UP AND LIVE WITH IT OR MOVE TO TOWN. I am SICK of hearing whiners about the roads. I live on a gravel road too and have a 4 wheel drive to get where I need to go. If you don't have one maybe you should invest in one before the next rain. If you are so smart and know when that will be.

i was not saying it's the graders fault it's their boss and i'm sure whoever it is that says do your job has internet they can get right down to the hour on weather. Once again i wasn't talking about the graders. My husband does have to work around the weather so i know if he can because he can look up the weather your husbands boss can.

Hey, Princess--why do you take Sassy's comment so personal? She wasn't even talking about the road maintenance workers themselves and she definitely wasn't singling your husband out. But if you really want to hear some whining about road maintenance workers, I can help you out with that. I used to live in a small town (in Wapello County) that had absolutely no houses or driveways on the other side of the street from me, but the road grader shoved all the snow right across my driveway every time. Absolutely no excuse for that one. I hope your husband is more thoughtful.
