I hate to see any theater close, but when you do not spend any money for upgrades it is bound to happen. I have lived in this area a little over 10 years and I do not think they spent much on the building or upgrades as far as projectors. My wife went there to watch a movie a few months ago and within the first 20 minutes, we had to go get help 2 different times because of problems with the pictures. Since they must have not upgraded or did anything to the projectors they should at least have someone manning each projector taht way when things go wrong they can take care of it immediately, instead of paying people having to go hunt somebody to take care of the problem. I figured that once the new theater opened(in the center behind Lowes), that this one would either have to spend money to do upgrades or they would close. It is a shame that they close not to spend any money on it.

They bought digital projectors a couple years ago.
In addition to having a flawless presentation every time (no scratches, hairs, etc.), they can play 3-D movies. (These are the clear glasses 3-D movies, not the blue/red ones from the 50's)

My son and I went to that dump-of-a-cinema only because they were the ones playing "The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D" (We love this movie). The movie played for almost a half an hour in pink and red without 3D visuals before someone was able to get TO the projector fix to it, which they then did in less than 10 seconds! They did restart the film but the average hour and a half movie turned into 2+ hours. Thank God we weren't on a time schedule. It is sad to see the theater that so many of us grew up attending in its condition, but I will be the first to admit, unless it's my only option to see the film I want to see I will not pay the ridiculous cost of a movie ticket to sit in its filthy, dirty theaters.

Everything has its pros and cons...I actually enjoyed watching the miniscule scratches and hair and dust (didn't find them distracting at all), it's part of the experience to me. However, what I find sorta distracting was the littlw bubbles that did come up a the end of each reel, denoting it was getting ready for a switch, and then the crackle of a new reelthat just started.
What I find so annoying is that in the olden days you paid a lot less and you got a newsreel with your movie, maybe a cartoon. Now for $7 you get 10-15 minutes of commercials before the movie. With all this digital technology it would be nice to start out with a 2 or three minute "newsreel" of current events.

Recycler_65 I'm glad you mentioned the commercials before the movie and could not agree more. The $7.00 movie cost to sit for 10-15 minutes and see credit card commercials (and others) is a complete annoyance. I miss the days of the cartoons before movies. Movie theaters commercialize and sponsor enough with Pepsi/Coke and candy brands.

Hmm...Wasn't Shaft a black movie?
Movies don't have to be expensive to produce and can be shot on digital film and edited on the computer. Ain't really that hard to produce any kind of film...black and white or color.

A big part of the problem is that movies aren't as good as we expect them to be so why pay the big bucks to be disappointed. Then throw in some competition.

Could I make a suggestion and perhaps turn the Cinema 8 into a '2nd run' theater
A Nostalgic themed theater would be nice.....show some of the movies from old on the big screen so people today can appreciate how they actually looked on the big screen. Just a thought......but I like old movies....I am sure others out there do too.

A 2nd run theater sounds like a great idea! I love those. I'm usually pretty reluctant to fork over the 1st run ticket price because so many movies are no better than the previews (they show all the best scenes in the previews), and I hate feeling like I wasted my money. A 2nd run theater gives people a chance to see a movie they may not have chosen at 8 bucks, but will take a chance on for 3 bucks. Also, indie films or small release films would be great.
