Well, I don't need a home...a little dog that wandered up to our house last week needs a home. She is someone's hunting dog (probably deer). She is tan & white in color and stands just below knee high. She appears to be a little less than a year old but, I'm not sure about that. She has a collar on with the name "Byron Parnell" on it and a 334 area code phone number. I did a reverse search on the number and it comes back as a number in Auburn, AL. Problem is...it's no longer a good number. Somebody from that part of Alabama probably has a hunting camp somewhere in Clarke County and she just got lost. When she first showed up she was literally skin & bones. She has apparently been hit by a car as her right hip appears to be out of place. She still gets around fine, although a bit slow. We have been feeding her trying to fatten her up but she has a long way to go.
The day before she showed up, our "baby" was diagnosed with nasal cancer. My wife and I have no children so our Min. Schnauzer is our "child" and he comes first and foremost! We have an appointment with an oncologist at LSU next week about possible radiation treatment for him. We are facing some pretty hefty vet bills in the coming month(s) otherwise we would be happy to help this poor dog out. We just can't afford it right now. Animal Control is out 'cause I don't think they accept dogs from the county. If they did, who's gonna adopt a dog with a bum hip? We know what happens to dogs who are there longer than 2 weeks. The East MS Animal Rescue League told us they rely on donations and they didn't have enough money right now to take any more dogs. I was hoping someone with a soft spot in their heart might be willing to take this poor baby in. She is as sweet as she can be and I don't have the heart just to take her somewhere and dump her. She's been alone long enough! Can someone help out? Thanks. |

You're doing no good looking for a home. If that dog's hip is in fact dislocated she is in serious pain and needs relief. Every day becomes worse. If you don't intend to have her vet treated at least have the consideration to destroy her.
Shoot her, point blank, from the rear. Place the bullet dead center of the rear of the skull. That will clip the brain stem and she'll know nothing about it. If you think you can't do this get some help. You don't want to shoot twice. |

Please don't shoot the dog. Talk with the vets around town and maybe one of them can help you out.

Have you checked other "Parnell" listings in Auburn? Reverse address search on the # you have, and if you get lucky you may be able to find a new listing.
On some sites, you can also search by street name, call a neighbor and ask that they pass your number on to the owner. sig.-"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round... |

Don't worry. I wouldn't shoot her! I couldn't imagine if my dog went missing and someone found him but couldn't take care of him so they just "popped a cap" in him.
There was only one Parnell listing in Auburn. I called the number and the lady didn't know anyone named Byron in her family. I just thought I'd put it on the forums to see if anyone may be able to help out. Thanks for your responses...whether I agree with them or not. |

You're doing her no favor with that pacifistic attitude. A dislocated joint is a painful experience. Some people think because the dog isn't screaming and complaining she isn't hurting. That's not the case. I have a little more than a passing knowledge of dogs since I have more than fifty years as a dog trainer. My decision to put the dog down was based on your decision not to treat a very painful injury. Good luck, I hope all goes well with you and the pup. |

It's possible she could have a microchip.. Any vet with a scanner could find out for sure, and even if she has to be put down, at least her owner could be found and informed. Both of my dogs have them, although I hope we never need them!

Thanks Uri. I respect your opinion. I have pressed on the hip to find out how much discomfort she is in. Apparently it doesn't bother her 'cause she hasn't made a sound. She just continues to lick me or my wife to show some appreciation for paying her any attention.

Oh, FYI -- dogs aren't used for deer hunting

Wrong. Dogs are not used in still hunting. I've killed many whitetails in front of a pack of dogs. sig.-"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round... |

Really? I've never heard of that. I stand corrected then

I was going to say the same thing. my family has always been big hunters and used dogs during deer season. In fact there is a specific time period for dogs and time for still hunting. |

If anyone will give that pupster a break she will.

God knows I can't afford it, but, if Cuddersmom will take the pup, I'll send her enough money to feed the mite.
