Need help in remembering some information about the Virginia Court Restaurant in the mid to late 60's. It was one of THE places in town to have a nice meal. IMHO

I worked there the summer between my first and second year in college. I am trying to remember who owned it at that time. I believe their name was Smith and there was another partner who was in the medical field.

Also, does anyone remember how long the building has been there.

JaTay, this post card is from the early '50's and the restaurant is visable. I remember it from my early childhood because it was a little ways down down the highway from the brickyard. Dad took is there to eat way back when I was itty-bitty.

That's the one that had a statue like thing of a lady diving into the pool.

Sunrise, I found this link that shows a picture of the Virginia Court and on the back of a post card on that link, it says it was located on Tom Baily Drive on Highways 11, 80 and 45.
You'll have to scroll down to the very bottom on this website to see it.

I remember the diving lady sign, but I can't remember where it was for the life of me. What road was considered Tom Bailey Drive, Hwy 11, Hwy 80 and Hwy 45? I'm guessing it's along the interstate somewhere?

If I'm not mistaken it was somewhere between Harala'a Auto plex and the entrance to Superwalmart/Lowes.

Jatay, this may or may not help out on who operated the Virginia Court Restaurant. If I recall correctly the restaurant part wasn't built until sometime in the early to mid-1960s. Seems like a Mr. Smith (was it Elmer Smith??) that ran the Spot and the Nelva Restaurant, may have also managed the Virginia Court Restaurant.

And yes, I remember it as a nice place to get a good meal.

Whoooooooops!!! This is a correction to what I said about when the restaurant at the Virginia Court opened. Seems like that there was a small restaurant operation on the office end of the motel years ago -- that may be the one Dent ate at. Then in the early to mid-1960s is when the restaurant on the end towards the Harley place was added. At least that's what my old memory bank is telling me. Someone ask El Frito. He's been around awhile.

Ethridge Lincoln Mercury is located on the Nelva property and they still use the main building.
The Virginia was located across the Interstate and about a block west of Ethridge. That's where Virginia Drive got its name.

G67, that's going to be a new high rise Holiday Inn, owned by Abdul Lala. It'll be similar to the new Hilton Garden Inn and Drury Inn.
