No matter how high the tax is, smokers will pay for their cigarettes. They should pay more because everyone in the end has to foot the bill for all the medical problems smoking causes. They should be at least $5.00 per pack.

And while we're at it, we should put a REALLY REALLY high tax on meat. Especially beef. It's not good for you and we all have to cover the costs of that too. We should also tax people for being over-weight. We all pay the medical price when people don't exercise. I wonder what else we could find that is unhealthy that we could tax people for before we get to YOU?

Gee you seem a little uptight about this issue. you must be a smoker. i think you should pay lots more for cigarettes.
Insurance premiums are higher and medicare and medicade always need more money because of this. Smoking doesn't just hurt the one smoking, but those around them too. maybe you need to try the patch or pay your share.

I am a non smoker and I agree that smoking is harmful, but I don't judge people's actions because frankly I don't care. I live a good and happy life because I mind my own business and don't care if someone does something different then me. Thats one thing wrong with America people are too worried about what others are doing wrong! Also if the government really cared that smoking harms people they would BAN cigarettes but guess what they never will because it is a Trillion Dollar Industry. I don't agree with this tax increase because the government is acting like a drug dealer, charging high prices because they know people are addicted and will pay any price. I'm not directly referring to anyone, I'm just sharing my opinion so don't get offended.
Don't judge me for I'm not judging you!

Sorry haven't been on this forum in a while. The government doesn't sell them but they sure will take the millions of dollars in tax money. And act like they care about the healthy of people.

Ok you want to tax my cigarettes even more than they are now. You say it costs the tax payers and the insurance programs more. Would that be more than drunk driving, drugs, illegal immagrints, un-wed mothers who have another child to get a raise on their checks and food stamps? What bad habit do you have that the government might want to tax next! When will it stop!
