Try typing in Library of Congress American Memory in Yahoo. It should be about the 2nd link down on Yahoo. Then type Clinton Iowa in the right. It will come up with some cool pictures. Pictures from all over the country

Sorry about that. I tried a few times and finally got it to work, but when I went back the URL had changed and I couldn't succeed in posting it again. I used Google though, and by typing in "American Memory Library of Congress" and then typing in Clinton Iowa, I was able to get there. Good luck to anyone interested. Difficult site to find, but worth the effort!

These photos really touch me as my mother worked in the depot dining room and my father worked all his life for the C&NW.
I can offer some information here: Photo #41 was taken just West of the RR crossing for Clinton Corn. That's Clinton Corn on the right. All the people standing there are waiting for the train to clear the crossing so they can go home (or to the Liberty Tap). Note the crossing guards shack just behind the automobile. This crossing was replaced with an underground walkway (tunnel) that is still in use today. There was also a crossing at 18th Place that is suppose to still be available for emergency access to South Clinton if the need arises. I seriously doubt the UP or ADM maintain this any longer...

My dad's nickname was "Duck," not because his first name was Donald, but because his first job was cleaning the duck pens at Swift's.
Here's a great picture of "Swift & Co., Clinton, Iowa, View of duck feeding pen." The photo was taken by Theodor Horydczak (1923-1959), and is now in the Library of Congress. No known copyright of this photo exists.
