Women capping bottles of Boone County Whiskey at
CLINTON DISTILLING CO.
circa 1950
It was located on North 2nd Street where the former Pointer Brewing Co. had been (Jewel-Osco parking lot now)

It is sad to me that they tore down that nice little bandstand for,
what Clinton always needs more of,
a parking lot.

BTW, that bandstand looks much like the one in Highway Park, across from Jane Lamb.

Yeah, they "paved paradise, put up a parking lot." I'm not positive, but I think DeWitt Park at one time also had a bandshell. What's too bad is that the two remaining (Highway Park & Lyons Four-Square Park), seldom, if ever, get any use. Oh well, "the times they are a-changin!'"

Uh, excuse me!!! The River City Municipal Band has put on quite a few performances at the bandshell in Lyons Four Square Park in the last few years. We're not quite up to Sousa Band status, but we're working on it!!!

CLINTON COUNTY'S 3rd JAIL
built 1885, replaced by City/County Law Enforcement Center 1970

Remember the old jail? Lots of escapes! My great-uncle was a contractor who offered to build a new jail fairly cheap, but didn't want the county dictating lots of "frills" for the prisoners.

I don't have one to publish, but I would suggest you try going to the museum. It's open 9-12 M-F, and 1-4 Wed, Sat and Sun. I'm sure they'll be able to find one for you, and if you want, they'll even scan it for you (at a cost of $3 I believe).

This is where,
if you sign a card promising not to do any vandalism,
you could receive a free pumpkin from the Sheriff's Office. Wink

I remembered the Sheriff's Halloween parties and the free pumpkins. I forgot about signing the card! Thanks for the reminder, Carl!
