The New York Times and the LA Times are making a big issue about what to do with pedophiles and other sex offenders after they complete their prison sentences. Now it costs millions of dollars and takes a decade or more to execute anyone. There are about 600 thousand registered sex offenders. We can't execute all of them unless we come up with a cheaper, quicker method.

And now the US Supreme Court says you can't execute them unless they have killed someone. This is all because of liberal like Obama. Keeping so many in prison for life isn't cheap either.

If we sent the pedophiles and other sex offenders to agricultural work camps it would be a lot less expensive than prison. The detainees could support themselves working in the fields. That way the farmers wouldn’t have to employ illegal immigrants. Prisoners are already being used this way, so it’s really only a small step.

Admitted pedophiles like Jack McClellen should be included. As Cynthia Steinhauser said, what McClellen is doing is an "abuse of power."

We could use those detention camps where we put the Japanese during World War II. I read recently that they were thinking about making them national monuments or some such thing. This would put them to better use. If there aren’t enough existing camps, new ones could be built for the overload.

And another thing, we know that boys who are sexually abused turn out to be sex offenders. It's a vicious cycle that is spiraling out of control. So they should be sent to juvenile camps. They can go to the adult camps when they are old enough. And if we are going to let them run around loose instead of putting them away someplace then requiring florescent green registration plates on the cars of pedophiles and other sex offenders is a good idea. But they aren’t in their automobiles all the time. They are often just walking around. Restricting where they can live doesn’t help all that much because they can get in their cars, park anywhere and then do whatever they want without anyone taking notice.

Even if the current law really doesn't apply to their situation... say like the 17 yr old who is dating 15 yr old...etc... lets make him a sex offender for life because he didn't know she was underage... or they both consented but it ticked off her parents!!! the same label given to a serial rapist.

Another thing to keep in mind -
Not all sex offenders are pedophiles.

The 600,000 sex offender number is intended to shock (and I looked it up to be sure it wasn't a gross exaggeration for fear sake), but it doesn't mean there are 600,000 child rapists out there lurking for little Billy or Jane.

True pedophiles - child rapists - should be placed in front of my antique hedge shears for a "close shave", but we can not lose sight of the fact that there is a lot of over-the-top reaction on this subject - and lumping all sex offenders in the same category is stupid.

One suggestion is that we use a version of the shock collars for dogs placed in a "strategic location" on the molester after he is put on probation. A nice invisable fence around his home (that is cheaper than putting on around all schools and parks) would keep him under a nice house arrest.

HEMET -- A 44-year-old convicted sex offender has been sentenced to more than a millenium in prison.

Horace Mann Williams was convicted in February of 11 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 and one count of digital penetration of a child under 14, along with a sentence-enhancing allegation of multiple victims.

He molested three girls between 1999 and 2005.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Williams to a record-breaking, 1,330-year prison term after the defendant verbally attacked the creditability of his former attorney, the prosecutor and the judge.

Williams, whose emotional displays ranged from pounding on the table to crying, spent more than 15 minutes criticizing the way his trial was handled.

He has filed a motion for a new trial, alleging juror misconduct.

This isn't the first child sex conviction for Williams.

In 1992, he pleaded guilty to molesting a 5-year-old Riverside girl, for which he spent six years in prison.

A lot of people have their opinions on the sex offender registry. This is my ONLY real problem with it. It lables that kid no differently than the 56 year old who is caught by Chris Hansen on Dateline and no differently than the stranger who attacks in a parking lot. That doesn't make sense to me.

OH, and in most situations, there's no crime in the ages you quote.

I think 1330 years is too harsh a penalty. It should be reduced to 1000.

The Miricle Mile Run at Michigan university - I heard that a bunch of runners there were fined with indecent exposure and now face the sex offender's registry. We're talking about 100's of college kids who get naked and run a mile. I'm sure there's MUCH WORSE behavior that the police can be out stopping. But these kids are being painted with the same brush as real rapists and real child molesters?
